Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) in Pediatrics provides comprehensive nursing care to children and adolescents with a wide range of health issues, from simple to complex. Under general supervision, the RN will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for pediatric patients in a hospital setting. This position requires strong clinical skills, effective communication with families, and the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality care.

Key ResponsibilitiesEssential ResponsibilitiesPatient Care:

Assume responsibility for an assigned group of pediatric patients, providing individualized care based on the patient's specific health needs.
Assess and monitor patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments.
Document patient progress and note any changes in physician orders.
Assist physicians with patient examinations, diagnostic procedures, and minor treatments.
Monitor and record physiological data (e.g., vital signs, lab results) and intervene as necessary to address changes in patient condition.
Administer prescribed medications, including intravenous infusions and blood products, and monitor their effects on the patient.
Ensure patient care is delivered competently, adhering to hospital protocols and safety standards.
Collaborate with patients and their families to share the care plan during hospitalization and provide guidance at discharge.
Educate patients and families about hospital procedures, treatments, and aftercare instructions.
Refer patients to appropriate specialists and make recommendations for further care as needed.
Delegate tasks to nursing support staff as appropriate to ensure efficient care delivery.

General Responsibilities:

Perform other duties as assigned by supervisory staff and management.

Required Skills & ExperienceExperience:

Minimum of 1 year of experience as a registered nurse in a clinical or hospital setting.
Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, and procedures, particularly in pediatrics.
Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services and apply nursing techniques in a pediatric setting.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish effective working relationships with patients, families, and colleagues.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to respond effectively to the cultural and language needs of pediatric patients and their families.
Basic computer skills for documentation and communication.

Preferred Skills & Experience

Required EducationMinimum:

Associate's Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program.

Preferred:

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher from a Board-approved nursing program.

Required Certifications & LicensureLicensure:

Current Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing or a current multistate compact RN license (eNLC).

Certifications:

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.

Preferred Certifications & Licensure

Education: Bachelors Degree

Certification: Basic Life Support , Pediatric Advanced Life Support
