UPPER ARLINGTON CITY SCHOOLS JOB DESCRIPTIONPosition: Burbank Early Childhood School Permanent Building SubstituteReports to: Director of Burbank Early Childhood SchoolEmployment Status: As Needed FLSA Status: Non-exemptRate of Pay: $16.40/hr.Description: Supports the assistant and lead teachers with classroomNOTE: The below lists are not ranked in order of importanceQualifications:

High School Diploma or GED
Experience with groups of young children

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to work effectively with others
Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing
Effective, active listening skills
Organizational and problem solving skills
Basic computer skills and excellent keyboarding skills
Ability to be flexible and adaptable to changing situations
Student management skills

Essential Functions:

Provide classroom teacher coverage when the lead or assistant teacher is absent.
Assist classrooms with curricular activities when not needed to cover an absent teacher.
Attend and fully participate in all classroom functions and activities including but not limited to indoor & outdoor exploration, field trips, and other school-wide events (such as open houses, field trips, etc.).
Promote good social relationships between children.
Ensure safety of students.
Maintain respect at all times for confidential information, e.g., student records.
Interact in a positive manner with staff, students, and parents.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

Practice the Burbank Early Childhood School philosophy.
Establish and promote successful relationships among children and adults.
Contribute to a high quality classroom environment.
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor

Computer/printer
Telephone/cellular phone
Other office equipment as needed

Additional Working Conditions:

Exposure to bodily fluids
Exposure to loud noises
Potential to travel
Overtime may be required; pre-approved by supervisor
Interactions with unruly children
Repetitive hand motion, e.g., computer keyboard, typing
Interruption of duties by students, visitors, staff and/or telephoning
Regular requirement to sit, stand, walk, talk, see, read, speak, reach, stretch with hands and arms, crouch, climb, kneel and stoop
