The Nurse Practitioner establishes a collaborative practice with the Psychiatrist to provide inpatient psychiatric evaluations, medical history for adult patients, and diagnosis using the DSMIV-TR or most current DSM, and medication management.
Adult psychiatric inpatient experience preferred.
Qualified candidates must have privileges at Samaritan Medical Center and be responsible to act in accordance with the Medical Staff Bylaws of Samaritan Medical Center and Samaritan Keep Home.
Every practitioner at the time of appointment and continuously thereafter, must demonstrate clinical competence to the satisfaction of the medical staff and the board of the hospital or the nursing home if applicable in which privileges are sought.
Qualified candidates must be able to organize personal work, maintain patient flow, give sound guidance and direction to others involved in care of patients, work independently and autonomously and make good decisions.
The PNP must be proficient in diagnosing, conducting and prescribing medications for patients having psychiatric mental health problems.
The NP must possess critical listening skills with the ability to communicate clearly.
Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential.
Their role also includes developing appropriate treatment plan and providing effective management of patient care with proper evaluation.
A commitment to update skills constantly and be proficient in the use of resources required.
The ability to work with a diverse population and team member is required.
Basic computer skills required.
Strong interpersonal relationship skills, time management, and critical thinking skill required.
Familiarity with computerized medical record preferred but not required.
BLS certification required.
MSN Required.
NYS license as nurse practitioner in psychiatry, pending approval from the office of mental health.
Prescriptive authority required.
Malpractice Insurance required.
