The Exhibition department of the Cleveland Museum of Art welcomes applications for an internship position, for a period of 44 weeks, from February 2025 to December 2025. The Exhibitions Intern is an aspiring museum professional, interested in a career path in exhibition project management.

The Exhibition Intern will join a collaborative Exhibition department in support of the management of permanent collection rotations. Working collaboratively with colleagues across the museum, the Exhibition intern will be responsible for the administration of individual projects and the coordination of a portfolio of projects in different stages of development over multiple years.

This position will provide multiple opportunities for learning and engagement. The intern will serve as the liaison among internal departments responsible for the planning and implementation of permanent collection rotations. The position will represent the exhibitions department internally and will collaborate closely with the Exhibition Project Manager in charge of rotations.

Projects under focus during this period may include but are not limited to:
Assisting with the planning and implementation of upcoming permanent collection gallery rotations, attending meetings with key stakeholders from Collections Management, Conservation, Curatorial, Design & Production, and more. Responsible for working directly in the museum's Collections Information Database and supporting day-to-day administrative duties of the Exhibitions department to gain real world experience and transferable project management skills.

This internship will equip the successful candidate with valuable skills in project management, museum registration, and exhibition coordination, providing a strong foundation for a career in the museum field.

A major renovation and expansion project completed in 2014 has transformed the museum into a significant international forum for exhibitions, scholarship, performing arts and art education.

The Cleveland Museum of Art (CMA) is committed to advancing, implementing, and developing transformational fellowship and internship opportunities at the museum. The Eric & Jane Nord Family Fellowship and Internship Network develops key fellowship and internship opportunities in targeted areas at the CMA that build stronger relationships between the CMA and the communities it serves. The Eric & Jane Nord Family Fellowship and Internship Network establishes yearly cohorts of fellows and interns at the CMA, in the areas of conservation, collections management, community arts, and director's fellowships, to advance the careers of qualified individuals interested in these museum fields.

Requirements:


The candidate must be eligible to legally work in the US. An ideal candidate may have a background in or possess an associate or bachelor's degree in visual or studio arts, art history, or a similar coursework. Previous hands-on experience working in museums, galleries, or creative spaces is preferred but not required.

Candidate should have good hand-eye coordination, manual dexterity, and spatial reasoning. Be self-motivated, reliable, and focused and have the ability to follow instructions and plan ahead and know basic math skills. This position requires the ability to perform physical tasks, including bending, kneeling, pulling, pushing, walking, standing for long periods of time, and lifting 25 pounds.

Salary:


The Nord Network Intern in Exhibitions will receive a stipend of $19 per hour for a total of 44 weeks of work. The Exhibitions Intern will also be eligible to participate in the Museum's health, dental, and vision benefits plan.
