Why does the job exist?
Incumbent will participate in standard HVAC duties including, but not limited to the installation, maintenance and repair of HVAC systems.
How does it get done?
This position is responsible for leading other licensed HVAC operator(s) in providing services for safe and sanitary conditions while performing tasks that may include but not limited to, repair and/or installing fixtures, and maintain and repair systems, throughout the facility of NMBHI. Reviews/assigns work orders and inspects the completion of projects to safety codes and other standards. Schedules/ensures the completion of corrective and preventative maintenance work and evaluates the performance of other staff members. Prioritizes and coordinates work orders in response to deadlines/urgency. Supports other HVAC technicians during the installation, maintenance, and repair of systems. Reviews/inspects all work before/after completion according to standards/procedures for health and safety. Responsible for the day-to-day HVAC operations and ensures that tasks are completed efficiently to quality standards. Provides planning/management in the safe/efficient servicing of HVAC equipment, components, and systems in commercial and/or residential settings. Utilizes human resources effectively to manage workload, achieve production, and objectives. Manages/develops/mentors other HVAC technicians which includes, hiring, scheduling, setting work priorities, conducting staff meetings, and directing work assignments. Ensures that materials/equipment are ordered/dispensed for scheduled work orders. Ensures that employees have the proper tools for the job and that they are maintained. Identify areas for process improvement and implement changes as needed. Train new employees and provide ongoing training to ensure that all team members are up to date on the latest techniques/technology. Diagnose equipment failures, improve performance, and provide management with options between maintenance and purchasing. Attend regular meetings which involves planning/reviewing budgets for projects. Report all work order activities through the use of an iPad and upload information to software.

Ideal Candidate
Ideal candidate will have:
Experience and/or knowledge of HVAC systems;
Experience with chillers/boilers;
Experience with mentoring subordinates;
Experience with delegating work and inspecting upon completion.
Minimum Qualification
High School Diploma or equivalent and one (1) year experience in heating, air conditioning, ventilation, and refrigeration maintenance andor installing and repairing refrigeration and heating systems. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field andor direct experience in this occupation totaling one (1) year may substitute for the required experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License.
Working Conditions
This position will perform work at the New Mexico Behavioral Health Institute, both indoors and outdoors. Some standing walking, stooping, bending and lifting a minimum of one hundred (1 OD) pounds with assistance may be required. Effective 01/01/2015, New Mexico Behavioral Health Institute became a 100% Tobacco Free/ E-Cigarette Free Campus. As such, no tobacco, tobacco products or E-cigarette products are permitted on any part of the campus. Department is Plant Technology. Shift is 8:00 am to 5 pm.
