Why does the job exist?

The Systems Administrator III position will support a variety of systems across the agency. The position is a senior technical member of the Infrastructure Team and is responsible for designing, installing, configuring, optimizing, safeguarding, administering, and maintaining the integrity of assigned information systems, utilities, and databases (hardware and software), some of which are highly complex in nature. This role helps maintain a modern hyper-converged infrastructure including virtualized servers and the design and allocation of resources to support multiple environments of all ranges of testing and production.

How does it get done?

Resolve system emergencies with significant impact on the integrity of user data and systems. Performs routine systems related updates, upgrades, and patching. Serve as a technical lead for systems security threat mitigation. Adhere to software/hardware standards, systems policies, and procedures. Leverage tools for monitoring network and system efficiency. Monitor and apply software licensing and server certificates. Conceptualize, recommend, and implement systems within broad technical or structural frameworks. Perform capacity planning for system configuration, software services, network services, load distribution, and service interrelationships among computer systems. Act as project leader on large-scale computing projects in which strong technical, directional, and personal leadership is necessary. Design, configure, implement, and maintain system security strategies, policies, and procedures. Support systems related audits. Apply skill in contributing to and testing the agency's disaster and recovery plan Ensure that systems functionality is in adherence with the organization's file retention policy

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have in-depth experience effectively contributing to an organization-wide disaster and recovery plan in addition to providing senior-level technical support for the following systems (or similar) as well as Help Desk requests. VMware (vCenter/vSphere), MS Windows servers and workstations/laptops, Teams, SharePoint, and System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), patching, Deployment Workbench for imaging machines, CISCO Hyperflex Chassis and UCS, Secure Endpoint, DUO/MS MFA and SSO, DELL EMC VNXe3200, Data Domain 2200, and PowerProtect Data Manager (PPDM), databases, SQL Server, .NET, PaperCut MF, eGoldFax, Access Control Systems, and Service Management Systems (e.g., Onboarding/offboarding, Help Desk and IT inventory).

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Technology, Engineering, or similar technical degree and four (4) years of experience in systems administration. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling eight (8) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some travel may be required. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. This position is required to respond to New Mexico Department of Health staff, and the New Mexico Department of Health Operation Center in an event of a disaster or emergency.
