Overview: The Academic Support Coach for the EOF Special Project will provide academic tutoring and mentoring support to students enrolled in the Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) program at Middlesex College. The Academic Support Coach will play a key role in fostering student success through academic assistance, personal guidance, and professional development support. This position is designed to support students in achieving their academic goals, building essential study skills, and overcoming challenges they may face during their college experience.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Serves as a mentor to EOF scholars to assist them with coursework and assignments, mentors them on academic study and college success skills, directs them to relevant campus resources, and promotes their self-efficacy as learners.
Provides one-on-one and group tutoring sessions in assigned subject areas, ensuring students receive the academic support they need to excel in their coursework.
Keeps regular and accurate records of tutoring sessions.
Collaborates with other tutors and the EOF team to create and deliver workshops to address common academic challenges.
Works closely with the Academic Mentorship Coordinator, EOF counselors, and staff to identify students needing additional academic and personal support.
Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree
Experience in tutoring or teaching
Experience working with a diverse student population
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Two (2) or more years' experience in tutoring or teaching
Bilingual (English/Spanish)
Strong problem solving and organization skills
Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:

One temporary, part-time position

Duration: 12/16/2024 - 6/30/2025

Schedule: Part-time position

Staff schedule to be agreed upon with supervisor

Office hours are typically between Monday - Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Occasional evenings, weekends, and some travel required

This is a specially funded position, dependent for its existence upon federal, State, or other non-College operating funds, and is not funded pursuant to the regular College budget. Continued employment is always contingent upon satisfactory performance and College needs. Grant funded positions are also contingent upon continued funding. This appointment is for the specified period only. Employment beyond the expiration date of the grant is subject to appropriate provisions of existing collectively bargained agreements in effect at the time for employees covered by those agreements.
