Job Title: Diesel Mechanic

Are you a skilled Diesel Mechanic with a passion for precision and a drive to excel? We're looking for an expert in diesel mechanics to join our team and keep our fleet in top condition. As a Diesel Mechanic, you'll play a critical role in ensuring our motor coaches and medium-duty trucks are road-ready, reliable, and safe. You'll work with cutting-edge equipment and systems, from Volvo and Cummins engines to Allison transmissions, all while advancing your skills in diagnostics, repair, and maintenance.

Key Responsibilities

Expert Diagnostics & Repair: Take the lead in diagnosing and repairing motor coaches and medium-duty trucks, focusing on engines from top brands like Volvo, Cummins, CAT, and Detroit Diesel.

Comprehensive Maintenance: Conduct preventative maintenance inspections and execute repairs on a wide range of vehicle systems, including air and hydraulic brakes, tires, steering, suspension, and A/C units.

Advanced Troubleshooting: Utilize your expertise in electrical troubleshooting, advanced computer diagnostics, and system repairs to keep our fleet performing at its best.

Team Collaboration: Work alongside other skilled mechanics, providing guidance and support to ensure efficient and effective repairs.

Safety & Compliance: Maintain strict adherence to all safety, EPA, OSHA, and FMCSA regulations, ensuring a safe and compliant work environment.

Ongoing Learning: Commit to continuous professional development by expanding your knowledge in advanced diagnostics and internal engine/transmission repairs.

CDL B Certification: Earn your CDL B with passenger endorsement within 120 days of hire to enhance your role and responsibilities.

Core Duties

Thorough Inspections: Assess vehicle condition through detailed inspections and diagnostic tests, identifying worn and damaged parts that require attention.

Preventative Maintenance: Keep vehicles in prime condition by following preventive maintenance schedules, upgrading components, and winterizing as needed.

Precision Repairs: Perform complex repairs and overhauls, ensuring systems like powertrains, electrical, fuel, and emissions are optimized for peak performance.

Test Drives: Verify repairs by conducting test drives and making necessary adjustments to controls and systems.

Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all vehicles meet federal and state requirements, including engine safety and combustion standards.

Documentation: Accurately document all services and repairs using digital tools, maintaining thorough vehicle records.

Equipment Maintenance: Keep shop equipment in top working order through regular maintenance and timely repairs.

Knowledge Growth: Stay ahead in the field by engaging in ongoing training, reading industry publications, and expanding your expertise.

Skills & Qualifications

Expert Diesel Troubleshooting: Demonstrated ability to diagnose and repair diesel engines, minimizing downtime and enhancing reliability.

Advanced Computer Diagnostics: Proficient in using cutting-edge diagnostic tools to identify and resolve engine and machinery issues.

Complex Preventative Maintenance: Skilled in performing intricate maintenance tasks, including tune-ups, alignments, and brake adjustments.

Machinery Operation: Experienced in operating hoists, forklifts, and other equipment to support repair work.

Mechanical Precision: Strong mechanical aptitude for conducting repairs with precision, adhering to industry standards.

Shop Operations Mastery: Skilled in managing auto, metal, and body shop operations to ensure seamless workflow and equipment uptime.

Physical Stamina: Capable of lifting and moving heavy parts (up to 55 lbs) safely and efficiently.

Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical skills to diagnose mechanical issues and implement effective solutions.

Flexible Scheduling: Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, and on-call rotations for roadside assistance.

Education & Experience

High School Diploma or GED required.

3+ Years of Diesel Engine Repair Experience: Proven track record in heavy-duty diesel engine repair, preventative maintenance, and diagnostics. Experience with Volvo, CAT, Detroit Diesel, and Cummins engines is preferred.

Licenses & Certifications: Valid driver's license with a clean record; CDL A or B with passenger endorsement is a plus. Must be able to pass DOT physical and pre-employment drug testing.

Tools: Must own a set of hand tools up to ¾ inch.

Compensation & Benefits

Competitive Pay: $30.00 - $40.00 per hour, based on experience.

Full-Time Hours: 40 hours per week with opportunities for overtime.
