POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the OB/GYN MD's at CMC's Women's Wellness & Fertility Center, the Director of Women's Wellness & Fertility Center and the Practice Manager of Women's Wellness & Fertility Center. The incumbent is acertified physician assistant (PA-C) who provides direct health care to women. Provides women, prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, and all-inclusive gynecological care within the scope of his/her practice. Complements the OB/GYN Physicians and Nurse Midwife in providing care to women with moderately complex issues, both acute and chronic. The office based PA-C can independently provide obstetric and gynecologic care to patients who request it.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Within established policies and procedures, the incumbent performs the following functions:
Essential Functions:
1. Provides routine gynecological and obstetrical care for women. Performs annual physicals, health maintenance screenings and orders immunizations. Performs prenatal and postnatal check-ups.
2. Orders and interprets diagnostic studies and lab work for OB/GYN patients. Differentiates normal from abnormal findings through the physical exam as well as the review of baseline histories and systems. Orders and interprets lab work and other diagnostic studies for GYN patients. Develops and implements a plan of care that may include prescribing medications and/or other treatments.
3. Provides complete prenatal care including abdominal and pelvic exams. Educates women and families about natural family planning, childbirth options, nutrition, and other issues related to pregnancy and childbirth.
4. Collaborates with the on-call MD, APRN and CNM's regularly and/or as needed. May refer patient to MD or subspecialty physicians if patient needs are found to be more complex than the PA-C is licensed to treat.
5. Prescribes medications, treatments or procedures as needed and within the scope of hospital privileges.
6. Provides care for patients with moderately complex pregnancy-related or gynecological problems. Diagnoses and determines course of treatment for such problems.
7. May perform designated office procedures such as NSTs, AFl's, endometrial biopsies, Bartholin Word Catheters, skin biopsies and colposcopies with appropriate training and certifications.
8. As needed instructs patients in the use of Fertility Care System.
9. Collaborates and participates with OB/GYN physicians, nurse practitioners and nurse midwives in sharing after hour's phone triage.
10. Participates in department and organizational clinical care initiatives.
11. Performs all job functions in compliance with applicable federal, state, local and company policies and procedures.
Secondary Functions:
1. Assists with scheduling appointments for coordinating care with other medical providers.
2. Participates in continuing development activities, maintains professional affiliations and licenses and strives to increase skill and knowledge.
3. Attends seminars and workshops for professional growth and development.
4. Participates in clinical meetings in the practice to develop a team approach to peer support and development.
5. Participates in appropriate role in disaster, fire drills, fires and other emergencies.
6. Exercises care in the operation and use of equipment and reference materials. Maintains work area in a clean and organized manner.
7. Performs similar or related duties as assigned or directed.

4. Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word. Essential functions include activities in which incumbent must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to patients, physicians, families and other employees accurately, loudly or quietly.
5. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make fine discriminations in sound.
6. Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
7. Ability to wear safety glasses, gloves, gowns, masks and other safety equipment.
8. Visual acuity sufficient for work which deals largely with visual inspection involving small anatomic or physiologic details as well as the whole patient and sufficient for preparing and analyzing data and figures, accounting, transcription, computer terminal operation, extensive reading and visual inspection involving small parts/devices.
9. Ability to endure periods of heavy workload and stress.
10. Ability to work with frequent interruptions and respond appropriately to unexpected situations.
11. Requires the ability to plan and perform a wide variety of duties requiring general knowledge of policies and procedures. Requires considerable judgment to work independently toward general results, devising methods, modifying or adapting standard procedures to meet different conditions, also making decisions based on precedent and policy.
12. Ability to communicate effectively and establish a cooperative, collaborative working environment.
13. Ability to accept constructive feedback and initiate appropriate actions to correct situations.
14. Ability to maintain good communications. Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, physicians, patients, families and the public.
15. Ability to transport self to and from off-site locations.
WORK SCHEDULE:
• Two days a week or 16 hours (Time of Monday through Friday) determined by the needs of the practice.
