If you enjoy working with trees in all types of weather, the Arborist I with Lincoln Parks & Recreation may be the perfect role for you! We do not climb, but use aerial lift trucks, hand tools, and power tools. Work involves responsibility for the pruning, repairing, and removal of City trees; and the operation and maintenance of specialized tree care equipment. Much of the work is hazardous, requires considerable strength and agility, and is performed outdoors in all types of weather. Assignments are received from working supervisors and include general details on each job to be performed, although the employee is expected to apply some independent judgment. Work is performed in crews under the leadership of an Arborist II.

THIS SAFETY SENSITIVE POSITION IS SUBJECT TO MANDATORY DRUG TESTING POLICIES AS A CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT.

What You'll Do

Prune, plant and remove trees; repair trees damaged by vehicles and storms; and perform other related tasks in conjunction with the care and maintenance of City trees.
Prune or cut branches using power saws, handsaws or other specialized tree care equipment; prune small trees from the ground using pole saws and power pole pruners; perform hazardous tree removal with a mobile aerial device.
Perform manual tasks such as clearing brush, planting trees, removing stumps, grindings, filling stump holes, and general cleaning and maintenance when not engaged in tree maintenance.
Perform routine preventive maintenance on equipment operated such as fueling/cleaning, checking oil/fluid levels, lubrication, inspecting tires, etc.
Operate and assist in the maintenance of mobile aerial devices and other equipment.
Operate brush chippers, hydraulic log loader and large log hauling trucks.

Work Schedule
Full time; 40 hours per week; Monday - Friday; 7:30 a. m. - 4 p. m.

Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school or equivalent; or any combination of training and experience that provides the desirable knowledge, abilities and skills

Necessary Special Requirement

Possession of a valid driver's license.
Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required or the ability to obtain within 60 days of appointment.
Successful completion of the City of Lincoln's First Class Arborist Examination within 6 months of appointment.
Nebraska Certified Pesticide Applicator License within 6 months of appointment.
