PURPOSE:

We seek a skilled and detail-oriented Estimator to join our team. This key on-site full-time position affects SBC's ability to compete and grow. The Estimator will prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates, bid packages, and takeoffs for various COMMERCIAL CONSTRUCTION projects. This role demands strong analytical skills, industry knowledge, and attention to detail to ensure the precision of bids and proposals and job profitability. The ideal candidate will have experience in commercial construction estimation and a solid understanding of material costs, labor costs, and project timelines.

POSITION SUMMARY:

• Reports to the Director of Quality Management and CEO

• Represent the Company according to SBC's (Sela Building Corp) vision, mission, and core values, as outlined in the Employee Handbook.

• Enable SBC to actively engage in and secure competitive bids essential for the company's current and future growth.

• Manage all aspects of bid estimates and related pertinent information, including but not limited to subcontractors and supplier quotes.

• Timeliness of all aspects of bid preparation is critical for SBC to comply with bid deadlines.

• While always striving to present a competitive bid, it is imperative that you also stay focused on the Company's ability to secure and maintain profitable margins.

• Pursue and adhere to SBC's tested and proven bid review and estimate procedure.

• Since an accurate and competitive bid touches every aspect of SBC's operations, always strive to collaborate and communicate with internal and external (subcontractors/suppliers) team members.

• Maintain all quotes and related information in strict confidence and share information only with the CEO and VP of Production.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Adhere and follow the Estimating Procedure & Handbook

• Carefully and meticulously review each Bid, highlighting critical and challenging areas before commencing the bid estimating process.

• Prepare estimates and draft proposals for all projects, including applicable project plans, specifications, and all bid documents.

• Review and promptly produce RFIs, detailed estimates, sub/supplier quotes, and bid packaging.

• Expertly and efficiently organize all bid information in an easy-to-follow and find computer folders/file structure.

• Review design options and recommend optimal solutions based on cost, engineering quality and availability of materials.

• Prepare disciplined estimates by calculating & completing takeoffs from the scope of work.

• Use a rating system to rate relied-upon information to measurable and verifiable standards.

• Qualify information by comparing it to historical data tables to ensure validity and accuracy.

• Perform additional tasks and assignments as directed by Management.

CORE COMPETENCIES:

• Minimum one to three years of experience estimating commercial construction projects

• Meticulous attention to detail with the ability to quickly spot errors, , and inconsistencies.

• Ability to visualize 3D objects from drawings and photos

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to work under pressure and deadlines without compromising details and quality of work

SKILLS & ABILITIES - ADDITIONAL

• Proficiency with Microsoft suite of applications (Word, Excel, Project)

• Proficiency with Procore and/or SAGE estimating tools

• Working knowledge of material and labor cost calculations and industry terminology. a Plus.

• Excellent ability to utilize Internet searches, familiarity with AI, and use the technology Co-Pilot/ChatGPT) to organize and improve information

• Ability to read and understand architectural and civil drawings. A working knowledge of CAD (Computer Aided Design) a plus.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• Minimum one to three years of experience in commercial construction estimating or a similar role
