Senior Communications Specialist, Act to End NTDs - East

The Global Health Division (GHD), within the International Development Group (IDG), works in Malaria and Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs); Global Health Security and Public Health Preparedness; Health Systems Strengthening - including Health Governance, Health Finance, Human Resources for Health, Capacity Building, and Health Policy and Advocacy; and Integrated Care - including Reproductive, Maternal, and Child Health and Family Planning. We address a range of public health problems to reduce disparities, lower disease burdens, and build locally owned sustainable health programs.  

The GHD is seeking a Senior Communications Specialist for USAID's Act to End Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) | East (Act | East) Program (), a global flagship initiative that supports 13 countries working to control and eliminate neglected tropical diseases. The Senior Communications Specialist will support the dissemination of technical and policy learnings, manage client reporting, and help build the profile of and visibility of the program work, impact, and experts to critical audiences.

This will be a full-time position based in Washington D. C. , Research Triangle Park, North Carolina (RTI headquarters), or remote within the United States. It will report to the Senior Communications Manager. The position may be expected to travel up to 15% of the time. Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Candidates will be expected to submit a writing sample for consideration.

Responsibilities:

Work collaboratively to manage the process and production of deliverables to the client, including all country and program-level workplans and program and country-level semiannual reports.

Develop program technical and policy briefs to ensure that key impacts and lessons learned are disseminated.

Writing, editing, and review of human-interest stories, thought leadership pieces, speeches, and other storytelling content.

Manage the relationship with RTI's internal editors for the editing, formatting and 508 compliance of program documents - coordinating editing schedules, updates to the style guide, and review of edited documents with technical leads.

Work closely with the Senior Communications Manager to plan for and implement content collection efforts, engaging photographers, videographers, and country teams to gather high-quality content to showcase programmatic impact.

Train and consult program staff and consortium partners on branding and marking requirements.

Draft and post web content on (url removed) and (url removed).

Support contractual relationships with and assign tasks to external vendors including graphic designers, writers, and editors.

Stay up to date on communications trends and best practices, keeping the program informed and identifying opportunities to leverage new tools, approaches, and platforms to achieve communications goals in creative ways.

Manage multiple activities or projects with competing deadlines.

Other duties as assigned by the Senior Communications Manager.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in communications, journalism, marketing, international development public health, international relations, political science, business administration, or related social sciences and 5 years of relevant experience OR Master's degree and 3 years of relevant experience.

Demonstrated experience supporting communications on a USAID project including reports, technical and policy briefs, and story telling content.

Strong project management experience working with large and diverse teams in various global settings.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Understanding of USAID reporting expectations and processes.

Self-starter, able to think creatively and work independently.

Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with strong attention to detail and the ability to accurately and concisely convey complex and technical information.

Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook)

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize multiple tasks, and meet deadlines under pressure.

Excellent soft skills, including strong interpersonal and communication skills, a problem-solving attitude, etc.

Preferred Qualifications

Exposure to and interest in international development or global health strongly preferred.

Fluency in written and spoken English required and working knowledge of another language(s) (e. g. , Portuguese, Spanish, or French) is a plus.
