Overview

Selective Insurance is seeking a Sr.
Manager, Software Engineering responsible for delivering software solutions and information systems to satisfy Claims business and customer needs.
This individual will oversee teams of senior software engineers, and team leads responsible for supporting complex applications of high strategic importance to the corporation.
The primary responsibility of this team is to ensure solutions align with business strategies and provide technical input and implementation support to application delivery teams for new projects and enhancements.

Responsibilities

Manage a portfolio of business application projects for Claims.
Participate in the development of the Claim's long-term strategy.
Meet with managers (IT and business) to discuss system requirements, specifications, costs, and timelines.
Establishing and maintaining relationships with business and IT counterparts to ensure proper collaboration
Accountable for project scope, schedule, and budget, ensuring commitments and progress are monitored closely and communicated clearly.
Update the forecasting and plan the allocation of team members across several development efforts.
Reporting of key metrics like resource allocation, software defects, productivity, and efficiency.
Plan, support, and execute talent development of team members to support the career growth of their staff.
Supervises, assigns projects, evaluates, and is responsible for hiring/terminating information technology personnel and contracting staff to design, engineer, and implement systems software.
Talent management of team members to ensure high morale and appropriate advancement of individual goals and career aspirations
Participate in evaluating, acquiring, and implementing vendor software to support business processes.
Participation in and well-planned implementation of established quality improvement initiatives and processes
In conjunction with the architecture group

Establish and enforce design and coding standards
Evaluate and recommend application development tools

QualificationsKnowledge and Requirements

College degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Business, or related field preferred
Prior management/supervisory experience with information technology personnel and offshore/onsite consults preferred
Prior hands-on application development experience using web based technologies and languages is preferred
Solid knowledge of surrounding technologies including design patterns and modern standards
Great leadership skills to work effectively with peers within and across organizations
Solid written and interpersonal communication with the ability to deliver compelling presentations
Strong ability to manage and execute on multiple project timelines and manage competing priorities
Experience in Property Casualty insurance a plus

The actual base salary is based on geographic location, and the range is representative of salaries for this role throughout Selective's footprint.

Pay Range

USD $146,000.00 - USD $209,000.00 /Yr.
