Learning Strategies and Student Tutoring Support Para

Position follows school year calendar - approximately 180 school days per school year

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

START DATE: September 3, 2024

HOURS: 7 hrs/day (7:50 a.m. - 3:20 p.m.)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Provides technical assistance to students using computers.
Provides writing assistance/tutoring to students.
Be familiar with various teacher/class expectations and keep in communication with teachers regarding student academic needs.
Reviewclassroom or curricula topics and assignments
Researches programs that may assist student's learning skills.
Tutor students individually or in small groups to reinforce and follow up learning activity.
Work with students to help them understand key concepts, especially those learned in the classroom.
Teach skills to improve academic performance, including study strategies, note-taking skills and approaches to answering test questions.
Demonstrate academic best practices for specific subjects and assignments, including research and writing tactics.
Developing and distributing teaching materials to supplement classroom lessons, including study guides.
Conducting practice tests to track progress, identify areas of improvement and help set goals for exam preparation.
Provide students positive and constructive feedback.
Must have minimum of two (2) years post high school graduation work experience or education.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Possess an associate's degree or higher; or have completed two years of study at an accredited institution of higher education equivalent to 72 quarter credits; or have successfully completed and passed the highly qualified academic assessment testing.
Basic operation knowledge of computers and computer software including but not limited to Microsoft Windows, Google Docs, etc.
Desire and ability to learn various technologies associated with supervision of computer lab.
Understanding and ability to work with students in the area of algebra and geometry.
Skill in critical thinking, problem analysis, and resolution.
Ability to maintain effective professional relationships with staff, students, parents, and general public.
Ability to follow directions.
Work effectively without close supervision.
Skill, dedication and aptitude for working with students.
Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to handle stressful situations.
Ability to work effectively with people with a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds.
Ability to maintain student confidentiality.
Ability to maintain regular and acceptable attendance levels.

EQUIPMENT USED:

A variety of electronic and technology devices including computers, printers, copier, telephone/voice mail, fax.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works inside but may be assigned to outside activities.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; occasionally walk and stand; twist at neck, bend at waist; kneel. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to be able to hear conversations in school environments. May be required to lift or move up to 40 pounds.

MENTAL/MOTOR DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee rarely performs routine work. The employee frequently exercises flexibility (ability to shift from one task to another). Guidance and reinforcement are usually available. The employee frequently works within time constraints and maintains attentiveness intensity.

4. College Transcripts - Please provide a copy of your college transcripts or proof of successful completion of the district approved academic testing mechanism. Applicant must have a minimum of two years of higher education with a minimum of 72 quarter credits, or documentation showing successful completion of the SD6 approved highly qualified academic testing assessment (currently the para professional e-skills testing at the Job Service).

If hired, these requirements must be met before the first day of work:

1. Fingerprinting - This district requires final candidates to pay for their own background check. Fingerprinting is done by appointment only; please call Karla Therrien at (406) #-#, ext. 1421. The cost is $30.00, payable by cash or check only, at the time of service.

2. MMR immunization records - If born after December 31, 1956, you will need to provide proof of immunity (titer test) or medical records verifying that your Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) vaccinations are up-to-date before the first day of work.
