Molecular PCR Supervisor

As a PCR Laboratory Supervisor at IDEXX BioAnalytics, you will be a key contributor at one of the largest veterinary diagnostic companies in the world. While managing a team of Medical Laboratory Technicians, you will also perform molecular laboratory testing that helps serve professionals in the biomedical and life science fields across the world. IDEXX BioAnalytics, Inc., a division of IDEXX Laboratories, Inc. is a leader in diagnostic testing for both the biomedical and life science market. The laboratory is based in Columbia, Missouri and employs approximately 60 people.

In This Role:

You will be supervising the day-to-day activities of the team. This includes managing direct reports, leading work activities, writing and renewing SOPs, maintaining equipment records, training new technicians, and using laboratory diagnostic tools to perform analyses and tests. You can expect to specialize in the following areas:

Management of direct reports, employees coaching and development
Participation in meetings
Maintains and monitors quality requirements for the laboratory
Oversees cost and metrics
Decision making and assignment of daily personnel duties
Technician onboarding and training
Timekeeping
Inventory and supply ordering
Total nucleic acid extractions from a variety of sample types
Molecular testing via real-time PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction)
Resolution of critical issues and coordination with other departments, from troubleshooting diagnostic analyzers to resolving situational workflow and turnaround time challenges
Use of analyzer and other molecular diagnostic methods to detect the molecular presence of pathogens
Leads/contributes to process improvements based on evaluation of existing procedures and business needs

What You Will Need to Succeed:

You've directly supervised 3-5+ employees in a fast-paced and/or high-volume work environment
You have 3-5 years' laboratory experience, and 1-2+ years' experience directly supervising employees
You have a 4-year degree in a Science-related field
You know human clinical or veterinary testing procedures.
You love a fast-paced, high-volume, innovative work environment
You are passionate about people leadership
You are excited about the opportunity to use your skills and abilities in promoting the health and well-being of animals.
Able to meet the physical requirements of working in a lab - standing and sitting for extended periods, phone & computer use, extended reach, lifting up to 50lb, and specific vision ability - close, color, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
This is a laboratory, so there is potential exposure to biohazards, agents known to cause zoonotic diseases, and hazardous chemicals.

Schedule:

The hours for this position are Monday - Friday 12 pm to 8.30 pm.
The hours may vary slightly depending on business needs.
Reliable and dependable attendance is an essential function of the position.
