Job Summary

The division of Parks and Trails is currently seeking to fill one (1) Assistant Park Supervisor, Natural Resources Supervisor 3. This position assists in overseeing Fort. Snelling State Park near St. Paul, MN . This is an unlimited (year-round) full-time (100%) position. Days and hours of work are primarily 8;00am to 4:
00pm Tuesday - Saturday with Sunday and Mondays off and will include weekends, and holidays. FLSA purposes, this position is anticipated to be Exempt year-round.

This position exists to direct and administer policy and program activities in the areas of Visitor and Interpretive Services, Public Contact and Retail Operations, and Community Outreach and Partnerships in the highly complex unit of Fort Snelling State Park. This position provides indirect operational and security support to provide a well maintained and safe experience for the public and staff. This position is pivotal in supporting the park as it continues to introduce the diverse metropolitan demographic population to the entire system of state parks, trails, and other outdoor recreation units. As our only urban state park in a rapidly growing metropolitan area of increasing diversity, this position is key in advancing efforts for the division and department to be more inclusive, relevant, and successful in connecting people to the outdoors. This position will focus on 1) fostering a high-performing park management team that works effectively with internal and external collaborators; 2) strengthening and expanding the rich network of external partners in the Twin Cities; (3) developing, implementing, and evaluating new systems to achieve interpretive and Division program objectives and (4) provide critical operations, emergency response and security support.

Responsibilities include:

Support the overall mission of the DNR provided strategic direction, supervision, planning, administration and management of Fort Snelling State Park Visitor and Interpretative Services, Public Contact and Retail Operations, and Community Outreach and Partnerships in collaboration with others so that units resources are effectively and efficiently utilized; provide planning, policy and programmatic leadership and support to create opportunities for citizens to connect with the outdoors; and build and sustain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Supervise and administer fiscal management, planning, policy development, and contract administration activities, in collaboration with others as needed, to accomplish agency and division goals and objectives and comply with rules and guidelines.
Supervise, direct, and administer enforcement, emergency, visitor, and public relations services and activities to protect resources, facilities, visitors, and staff; promote positive public relations; inform the public and others about division activities and goals; and ensure state, agency department and division rules are followed.
Exercise supervisory authority so that applicable labor agreements and plans are equitably administered and employees under the supervisor's jurisdiction effectively perform assigned job duties to achieve program, work plans, unit, and section objectives.
Collaborate with internal and external partners as appropriate, to enhance the development and administration of resource management programs so that natural communities and cultural resources are restored, protected, or rehabilitated consistent with statewide and regional objectives and requirements.
In coordination with unit manager, supervise, administer, and direct development, maintenance, operation, real estate, and rehabilitation activities and programs so that safe, high qualify facilities and programs are available to the public, natural and cultural resources are preserved and protected, and programs / facilities comply with relevant standards and state codes.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications

Current (ONE YEAR) experience as a Natural Resources Supervisor 3 - Parks, or NR Area Supervisor T&W.

Bachelor's or advanced degree in Natural Resources Management, Parks and Recreation, Natural Science, Communications, public relations, business management, political science, public administration, social science, education, interpretation, or closely related field and TWO YEARS professional level experience in a natural resources setting, agency or organization; including budget development and fiscal management, work planning and partnership and visitor management experience and TWO YEARS of supervisory or professional lead work experience in a governmental agency; or in a natural resource setting, organization or agency.

Conflict resolution skills/experience
Writing skills sufficient to communicate work plans, proposals, and reports.
Communication skills suffic.
