POSITION OVERVIEW & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Commissioning (Cx) Associate plays a key role in supporting successful execution of commissioning, re/retro-commissioning (RCx), and energy audit projects. Reporting to the Commissioning Project Manager, this individual will support KFI's commissioning team by supporting the development of projects and reports and executing field activities.

Ideally, the person filling this opening will have at least one year experience doing this type of work, building operations background, a technical HVAC or related degree/certificate, and working knowledge of HVAC systems fundamentals. However, KFI is prepared to hire the right individual, who may be less experienced and does not have these preferred credentials - provided they have the other necessary qualifications. KFI is prepared to invest in the development of the right candidate through internal training and self-driven additional training courses.

The successful candidate will have a pragmatic and applied approach, enjoy fieldwork, and effectively interact directly with customers and contractors. They will have a strong attention to detail and will possess effective communication and influencing skills. This person will also be self-directed and will thrive in an environment where consultation and collaboration lead to superior outcomes.

Specific core responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

Field Task Execution

• Work under the supervision of Project Managers to assist with functional testing of HVAC and lighting control systems in the field for commissioning, re-commissioning, and retro-commissioning projects. Examples include:
  • Perform installation reviews against design details, manufacturer IOM documentation, and industry standards.
  • Perform equipment I/O testing (point to point) comparing BAS outputs to physical devices.
  • Perform sequences of operation tests through BAS to confirm proper programming of equipment.
• Work under the supervision of Project Managers to perform test & balance (TAB) measurements and processes in new construction and retro-commissioning applications.
• Support the PG controls team:
  • Drive between KFI office, vendor supply locations, and jobsites to make material deliveries, or perform other site tasks. Drive to deliver materials when a quick response is necessary, or it is the best practical solution. Otherwise, arrange for material delivery by freight is often preferred.
  • Manage project site controls material storage including organizing control products for installers to efficiently locate, and relocate or demobilize controls material storage shelving with project phasing/completion.
• Assist technical leads in the field with verification of control systems testing, including hardware point-to-point checkout.

• Support Project Managers with technical write-ups of these activities/reports.

• Complete assigned tasks within the budgets provided by Project Managers.
• Assist with development of system construction checklists and functional performance test scripts. Examples include:
  1. Review design documents and manufacturer IOM documentation to review/edit KFI templates for Pre-Functional Test scripts (PFTs) in KFI commissioning software.
  2. Review contractor control drawings to develop KFI Functional Performance Testing (FPT) scripts in KFI commissioning software to include all BAS I/O points and sequence of operation tests.

• Perform Cx/RCx measurements and test scripts of simple systems on their own.
• Participate in construction and/or commissioning meetings and document representative notes on action items and responsibilities.
• Review and comment on equipment submittals related to commissioned systems.
• Assist the Project Manager with RCx energy analysis recommendations.
• Other duties as directed, depending on experience level.

• Candidates working towards an associate degree or technical certification and related field experience preferred. Bachelor's degree in a non-engineering field will be considered.
• 0-4 years of experience is desired for this role in direct HVAC, building operations, or construction fields.
• Possess a valid driver's license and reliable personal vehicle for work-related travel.
• Represent the company in a professional matter.
• Proficient in use of MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel).
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with others.
• Knowledge of computer technology and specific areas of application.
• Travel: May include up to 25% domestic travel.

• This is a part-time position, with an average of 20 hours per week expectation (Monday to Friday). Core hours are between 7 AM and 3:30 PM. Schedule is expected to fluctuate based on project needs.
• Some work locations will feature rough terrain typical of construction sites or require lifting or moving field testing equipment.
