Microbiology Specialist - MLS FT - Days

Description

• Demonstrates knowledge of Laboratory principles and theory. Follows approved Laboratory test procedures.
• Functions as the technical supervisor of the Microbiology section.
• Works independently, organizing to maximize workflow efficiency. Completes testing within the Laboratory TAT expectations. Take appropriate action when necessary.
• Ensures specimen integrity by adhering to Laboratory test procedures for specimen identification, handling, processing, and storing.
• Performs instrument start-up, maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting as required with proper documentation. Take appropriate corrective action.
• Performs, evaluates, and documents all required Quality Control. Take appropriate corrective action.
• Correctly performs tests, interprets results for accuracy, acceptability, and critical limits with proper documentation. Take appropriate corrective action.
• Assists all co-workers in all areas as needed.
• Assists in the training of new Laboratory employees.
• Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the Microbiology section.
• Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

• Bachelor's degree in chemical, physical or biological science.
• MLS certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).
• Clinical Laboratory Scientist, National Credentialing Agency (NCA).
• ASCP CM and SM certifications are a plus.
• 4 years minimum experience in Clinical Microbiology, all areas.
