BASE RATE: $24.42 per hour, with potential for additional compensation based on qualifications.
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for accounting and financial management functions for Upper Peninsula Managed Care and Upper Peninsula Healthcare Solutions in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. Assists with financial reporting required by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) and the Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Follows established Upper Peninsula Health Plan, LLC (UPHP) policies and procedures, objectives, safety standards, and sensitivity to confidential information.
Assists in the development of financial policies and objectives for Upper Peninsula Managed Care, LLC (UPMC) and Upper Peninsula Healthcare Solutions (UPHCS).
Coordinates and manages accounting procedures and financial controls; ensures documentation and reporting of all financial transactions.
Responsible for journal entry recording and preparation of monthly financial work papers.
Assists in the development of the annual budget including the development of targets for revenue and expenses.
Prepares the monthly financial statements and reports, including evaluation of financial results, and analyses of actual performance to budget.
Responsible for invoicing, posting, verifying, and recording customer payments and transactions related to accounts receivable.
Assists with work paper preparation for the audit of financial statements.
Assists Accountant II as needed with the timely filing of financial reports, statements, and regulatory and tax reports.
Coordinates and monitors capital planning and fixed assets.
Conducts monthly reconciliation of membership payments for Medicaid lines of business, including Maternity Case Rate (MCR) payments.
Assists Senior Accountant with special programs or projects, including department process improvements.
Assists with development of accurate financial forecasts.
Maintains confidentiality of client data.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:

Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance or combination of education and experience

Working knowledge of basic accounting principles and/or one (1) to two (2) years of experience in a
business office environment performing accounting-related functions
Preferred:
Two (2) to four (4) years of experience in a business office environment performing accounting-related
functions; experience in an automated general ledger environment

Keyboarding proficiency; Working knowledge of MS Office Word, Outlook, PowerPoint; Advanced knowledge of MS Excel
