JOB SUMMARY:

The Director of Elementary Prek-4th Education and Operations is a key leadership role responsible for coordinating and advancing educational initiatives at the elementary level, with a focus on maximizing student achievement, promoting equity, and ensuring the alignment of curriculum and instructional practices. This position reports directly to the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Technology and works collaboratively with various stakeholders to drive educational excellence and implement the district's strategic plan.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Key Responsibilities:1. Curriculum Development and Alignment:

  • Guide the design, evaluation, and updating of the curriculum to align with state standards, district goals, and elementary-specic needs.
  • Collaborate with teachers, grade-level leaders, and administrators to ensure curricular coherence and vertical alignment with secondary education.
  • Foster the use of innovative teaching methods, technology, and inquiry-based instruction across all elementary classrooms.
  • Coordinate the development of the Program of Studies and support differentiated instruction for diverse learners.
  • Design and implement special schedules for schools to accommodate various programs and instructional needs.
2. Instructional Leadership:
  • Provide guidance on implementing research-based instructional practices and support professional development.
  • Use data to identify instructional needs, evaluate program effectiveness, and adjust strategies to ensure all students meet learning goals.
  • Mentor elementary principals and facilitate staff development to promote continuous improvement and leadership skills.
  • Focus on maximizing student achievement, with special attention to equity for traditionally underserved student groups.
3. Operational Oversight:
  • Oversee the operation of preschool programs and the Young Fives Program, ensuring they meet district and state standards.
  • Oversee the operation of the Magnet program, ensuring educational rigor is met.
  • Manage scheduling, staff allocations, and resource management for elementary schools, including special schedules.
  • Administer and oversee the Michigan Integrated Continuous Improvement Process (MICIP) and district improvement plans at the elementary level.
  • Coordinate and plan all monthly management meetings for elementary level administration.
  • Serve as the district liaison for kids club programming.
  • Co-lead the Human Sexuality Advisory Board.
  • Act as a liaison between the school district, Wayne RESA health department, and school nurses.
  • Design, apply for, and manage all grants related to elementary education.
4. Professional Development and Training:
  • Develop and implement targeted professional development programs to enhance the instructional skills of elementary educators.
  • Plan and assist building and central oce administrators in conducting staff development activities based on building and district needs.
  • Facilitate district-wide instructional improvements in alignment with the strategic plan, focusing on elementary education.
5. Compliance and Accreditation:
  • Ensure curriculum and instructional practices comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Lead efforts related to accreditation processes and ensure policies align with district goals and student needs.
  • Compile and analyze data (e. g. , assessments, attendance, etc. ) for program evaluation, compliance, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee all elementary assessment development, implementation, and monitoring efforts.
6. Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Work closely with elementary school leadership, teachers, parents, and community members to promote a unied vision for student success.
  • Represent the district on various regional and state committees involved in instructional development and evaluation.
  • Foster positive relationships with stakeholders and attend district, campus, and community functions to support the efforts of students, staff, and patrons.
7. Strategic Planning:
  • Develop strategic goals for elementary education and align resources to support these goals.
  • Coordinate the district's efforts in implementing the Strategic Plan objectives at the elementary level.
  • Drive the alignment of PreK-12 curriculum, instruction, and assessment resources across all grade levels.
  • Organize and lead Grade Level Leaders at the elementary level
Additional Duties:
  • Oversee summer school programs for elementary students and coordinate English Language Learner services.
  • Administer district grants and ensure their alignment with program needs.
  • Act as a liaison for matters pertaining to elementary education and participate in goal-setting and program evaluation.
This role demands a visionary and collaborative leader who can drive educational excellence, promote equity, and ensure the alignment of curriculum and instructional practices across all grade levels within the district.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The individual selected for this assignment will be the one who offers the best combination of qualities in accordance with the following standards and requirements:
  • Master's degree, or greater, with training in school administration including qualications for a Michigan administrator's certicate.
  • Three or more years of demonstrated successful experience as a building administrator.
  • Proven multi year record of affecting innovative and lasting change in instructional programs that highlight progressive leadership.
  • Evidence of leadership that actively and professionally challenges the status quo.
  • Training and experience in supervision, curriculum design, and implementation of teaching practices.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current best practices and research in the eld of curriculum and instruction.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and scal resources.
  • Evidence of ability to provide quality leadership through:
    • Excellent communication skills
    • A conceptual understanding of human growth and development, learning theories, and teaching methodologies;
    • A clear understanding of the role of assessment in student progress and student responsibilities;
    • Skill in creating a positive, open, enthusiastic, and well-organized teaching and learning environment;
    • Skill in fostering the continued growth of staff members;
    • Skill and sensitivity in working with all members of a diverse school and community; and
    • A commitment to community education concepts.
