Entry-Level Surgical Technologist

Summary:

Join our dynamic surgical team as an Entry-Level Surgical Technologist. This role offers you the opportunity to work in a fast-paced Operating Room environment where your skills and knowledge of surgical procedures will be crucial. You will ensure that all supplies and equipment are prepared and functioning, support the surgical team, and maintain a sterile environment.

Responsibilities:

(30%) Exhibit understanding of surgical procedures and problem-solving during surgeries. Verify items on the physician preference card and manage supply accuracy for patient billing.
(30%) Operate and assemble surgical equipment and supplies correctly. Maintain cleanliness and ensure all instruments are sterile and operational.
(30%) Safeguard the sterile field and promptly address any breaches in technique.
(10%) Efficiently prepare the sterile field and maintain an accurate count of medications, instruments, and sponges as per protocol.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

Foster a positive and courteous atmosphere for patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers.
Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams to meet patient needs.
Remain composed and efficient in high-pressure situations.
Share information with team members regarding significant changes or unusual findings.
Engage in regulatory surveys and improvement initiatives.
Assist in training, education, and development of staff.
Participate in professional development activities and stay updated on industry standards.
Fulfill on-call and additional shift requirements as necessary.
Complete other assigned tasks.

Certifications and Licensures:

BLS: Basic Life Support certification required within one month of hire.

Education Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent.
Completion of a surgical technology program accredited by CAAHEP or a military program is required.

Experience, Training and Skills:

Recent graduates of a surgical technology program eligible to take certification exams or surgical technologists with less than two years of experience.
Ability to independently scrub for basic surgical procedures.
Maintaining operating room competency is essential.
Strong manual dexterity and mechanical skills for handling surgical instruments.
Excellent interpersonal skills for clear communication with team members.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

Ability to handle stressful situations involving public contact and trauma.
Capability to wear personal protective equipment, including latex, if necessary.
Physical stamina to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods; capable of lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.
Regular attendance and ability to perform tasks independently.
