JOB TITLE: Mental Health Social Worker
REPORTS TO: Coordinator of Mental Health Services
JOB SUMMARY
To provide urgent support to Tuscaloosa County School Systems' youth in critical need of mental health services. The Mental Health Social Worker will provide mental health treatment planning and implementation.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
None.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Demonstrate support for the school system and its vision, goals, and priorities.
Provide an array of outpatient mental health services to promote individualized student support including, but not limited to, crisis prevention and intervention, conflict resolution, anger management, grief support, trauma-informed care, etc.
Conduct intakes, and provided individual, group, and/or family therapy.
Provide mental health assessments, counseling, referrals, and intervention services.
Develop service plans and conduct review throughout the duration of intervention.
Provide the appropriate interventions that are defined in the student's service plan.
If the intervention is not within departmental scope of services, ensure that student/student's family are linked to the appropriate resource.
Engage in resource development and networking.
Complete and maintain documentation of services rendered in a timely and accurate manner and according to departmental guidelines.
Attend and actively participate in school meetings for students, including IEP meetings, 504, multi-disciplinary meetings, disciplinary conferences, PST meetings, parent/student meetings, etc.
Write reports to school and other community agencies as necessary.
Follow up with psychiatrist, attending physicians, or other helping professionals in cases involving psychiatric hospital admissions.
Maintain timely, clear, and open communication and consultation with school professionals.
Demonstrate effective time management and organizational skills to maintain appropriate student contact and services in various school settings.
Respond to phone calls/email/other communication in a timely manner.
Deal with confidential and sensitive information in a professional manner.
Work with school administrators, counselor(s) and other school system resources to coordinate student's scheduling of intervention services.
Provide and/or arrange in-service training for school staff.
Provide and/or arrange mental health awareness/acceptance activities with students, schools, families, and communities.
Attend and actively participate in district-wide counselor and social worker monthly meetings.
Use effective collaboration skills to work as an effective team membe
Adhere to the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Professional Standards and Code of Ethics.
Use basic office software such as email, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Teams in performance of duties.
Monitor the area of supervision to ensure with compliance with the policies and guidelines of the State Board of Education, AdvancED/Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and the local school system.
Strive to ensure that all Mental Health and Social-Emotional programs are consistent with the state and local laws, guidance, and best practices and to assist teachers and administrators in the effective implementation of these programs.
Visit homes for the purpose of gathering information relative to students.
Maintain sufficient records of cases for use by school, staff members and outside agencies.
Participate in regularly scheduled planning with TCSS Social-Emotional staff and other mental health contacts.
Participate successfully in training programs, professional development, or other learning to increase skill and proficiency related to job performance and leadership.
Demonstrate the ability to multi-task, delegate, and prioritize those tasks appropriately.
Maintain confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.
Demonstrate initiative in identifying potential problems and/or opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility.
Model and maintain high ethical standards.
Respond, maintain, and/or submit required reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.
Adhere to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local regulations.
Report absences and take leaves in accordance with Board policies and procedures.
Perform other reasonable and equitable job-related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.

INIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW). A MSW from a school of social work accredited by the Council of Social Work education preferred.
Licensure by the Alabama State Board of Social Work Examiners.
A minimum of three (3) years' experience in a social work practice setting working with children, youth, and families. Experience working with substance abuse, mental health issues, and/or school-based social work preferred.
Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act N 2002-457.
Possess and maintain a valid Alabama Driver's License.
Provide personal transportation or have access to appropriate transportation in order to meet job requirements, including travel between assigned schools and home visits.
Ability to interpret the impact of legislation, state Board regulations, and
