The PCT (Nurse Aide) plays a vital role in patient care by performing and assisting with daily activities and treatments under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, adhering to established policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
(50%)
Organize and prioritize care for assigned patients under a nurse's direction, performing basic nursing aide skills, including rooming patients, obtaining vital signs and blood glucose readings, transporting patients and supplies, and conducting hourly rounds.
(25%)
Accurately document patient treatments and observations, providing comprehensive reports to the healthcare team.
Maintain a clean, safe, well-stocked, and orderly unit to ensure a positive patient environment.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
Support the mission, goals, policies, and standards of the nursing department.
Recognize, support, and implement medical center and unit policies and work rules.
Address the age-specific needs of the population served according to department standards.
Respond appropriately in all medical center emergency situations to ensure patient safety.
Provide excellent customer service, demonstrating professionalism and courtesy at all times.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Certifications and Licensures
Credential:
BLS: Basic Life Support - Required within 1 month of hire or transfer.
CENA: Certified Educated Nurse Aide - Must hold an internal MyMichigan Health Patient Care Technician certification, a current State of Michigan Certified Nursing Assistant registry, or complete related medical certifications.
Required Education
Education:
High School Diploma or GED.
Experience, Training and Skills:
Familiarity with medical terminology.
Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication with individuals and groups.
Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and willingness to participate in additional training.
Physical/Mental Requirements and Working Conditions:
Ability to manage stress and interact positively in trauma and grief situations.
Capacity to wear personal protective equipment and move freely throughout the facility.
Overall vision and hearing capabilities required for effective work.
Frequent standing, walking, and postural changes; requires physical dexterity.
Some exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other infectious materials; adherence to safety protocols is mandatory.
Ability to handle diverse tasks independently, with regular attendance and wakefulness.
Physical Demand Level:
Medium - must be able to lift or carry 21-50 lbs occasionally, 20 lbs frequently, and constantly manage lighter weights.
