Job Overview: The Mechanical Design Engineer is a critical role within our client's organization, responsible for developing new products and refining processes to support their production. This position involves creating and managing designs, detailed drawings, and technical specifications to meet customer needs and ensure operational efficiency. The Mechanical Design Engineer will work closely with the manufacturing and engineering teams to implement new ideas and improve existing products, contributing directly to the company's innovation and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conceptualize and design solutions based on stated requirements.
- Develop 3D models and layouts using SolidWorks for new designs.
- Model interfaces, piece parts, and purchased components.
- Analyze information from manufacturers' catalogs, technical guides, and precedents for accurate dimensions and standards.
- Customize and create detailed part drawings from engineering designs.
- Design tight-tolerance machined components (e.g., mill, lathe, and screw machine parts) and molded parts.
- Create assembly and product drawings, ensuring accuracy and adherence to standards.
- Perform tolerance analyses and apply knowledge of geometrical dimensioning.
- Troubleshoot and recommend design solutions for implementation.
- Initiate engineering change notices and support design reviews.
- Collaborate with manufacturing engineering and operations to verify the manufacturability of designs.
- Develop suppliers to ensure component supply and participate in the Material Review Board for non-conforming material.
- Order, assemble, and test new products, resolving performance and production issues.
Requirements Include:Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
Experience:
- 3-5 years of experience in a related field, particularly in mechanical design.
- U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident (required to satisfy AFSI ITAR requirements).
Skills:
- Proficiency in SolidWorks for 3D modeling and design.
- Strong skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
- Strong communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving abilities.
Knowledge:
- Understanding of best practices in customer service and design for manufacturability.
- Familiarity with geometrical dimensioning and tolerancing.
- Experience with machining and molding processes.
