Description

The In-Vitro Analytic Core (IVAC) Technician provides support for the Center for Cell Signaling Research IVAC Laboratory at UNE, located on the Biddeford Campus. The technician will be responsible for performing various laboratory tasks related to cell culture, RNA/DNA processing, protein analysis, and operating several instruments for high-throughput sample analysis. Additionally, the technician will participate in protocol development and optimization, conduct research services, and train new users, including undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty.

The successful applicant will possess a BS in Biological Sciences or a related field, along with 2-3 years of hands-on experience with relevant assays and techniques. Basic computer skills and strong communication and interpersonal skills are also required. Additionally, critical thinking, flexibility, independence, and a willingness to learn are essential traits for this role.

Responsibilities

Basic aseptic mammalian cell culture techniques, and a range of methods for cell manipulations including but not limited to transient and stable transfection and cell labeling.
RNA and DNA extraction and quality assessment; RNA/DNA sample analysis including PCR, RT-PCR, and qRT-PCR.
Protein sample isolation, processing, and analysis including electrophoresis, ELISAs, western blots, and multiplex assays.
Sample preparation for proteomics and transcriptomics analyses.
Use of high-throughput instrumentation, including but not limited to: multiplex qRT-PCR machine, FLIPR, and a high content imaging system.
Participation in the development and optimization of new protocols and techniques.
Preparation of reagents and solutions according to lab SOPs.
Oversight and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
Careful documentation of research progress and protocols.
Maintain the laboratory in a clean and safe fashion.
Participate in training new users according to established SOPs.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences or a relevant field, plus 2-3 years of hands-on experience with selected assays, or a combination of education and experience that provides comparable knowledge and skills.
