The Prince George's County Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Department is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill an Accountant 4H position, grade H27, in the Fire and EMS Department's Fiscal Affairs Division. About the Position:
This is a high-level accounting professional position that performs complex financial, administrative and supervisory duties for the Fire/EMS Department, with a high degree of independent judgement, action, initiative and analysis. This position is responsible for the Ambulance Billing and Grant's team within Administrative Services and supervises a Budget Management Analyst III and an Accountant III position.
About the Agency:The mission of the Prince George's County Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Department is to serve our communities with excellence by providing the highest quality of risk reduction, fire suppression, rescue, emergency medical, and all-hazards response services to enhance the quality of life in Prince George's County.
Examples of Work

Defines and develops funding sources to support existing and planned program activities for the Fire/EMS Department as well as lead the development, writing, and submission of grant proposals to federal, state, and private funding agencies.
Prepares yearly budgets for the Fire/EMS Department.
Responsible for managing the State AMOSS grant for the Fire/EMS Department.
Provides leadership, direction, and coordinate duties of the Budget Management Analyst III and Accountant III staff responsible for expenditure authorization, revenue tracking, grant expenditure tracking and overall financial reporting.
Oversees the authorization and processing of financial transactions including payment requests, credit card purchases, purchase requisitions, and contract encumbrances.
Authorizes fiscal requests as the Budget Manager's designee and process for payment.
Directs the submission of financial documents into the County SAP accounting system.
Oversees grant expenditure tracking and analysis, fixed assets, special projects and other required County expenditure reporting.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Quantitative Analyses or Business Administration or a related field
At least three (3) years of professional accounting experience
At least one (1) year in the lead/supervisory role

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

Five (5) years of Government Accounting experience overseeing ambulance billing and grant management
Ability to identify and source grant funding opportunities
Intermediate to advanced knowledge in Microsoft Excel
Possess a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) title
Knowledge of Systems Applications and Products (SAP) or other Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) platforms is preferred
Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Knowledge of present value and future value calculations
Must be able to analyze, interpret, and submit oral/written reports
Great time management, analytical and organizational skills
Ability to work and adapt to a fast-paced environment
Ability to manage multiple deadlines
