About the Position
We are actively seeking engineers to join the Flood Control District of Maricopa County.
Under general supervision, the Engineer Associate will conduct fundamental to advanced engineering analyses and research. Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with established restrictions, codes, and permit requirements in project designs, as well as supporting project managers. You will develop an understanding of flood hazards and floodplains throughout the county and respond to both internal and external inquiries regarding floodplain information.

We Require

Four years of professional pre-registration civil engineering or hydrology experience
Certification as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) may substitute for the aforementioned experience; OR
Four years of experience performing technical engineering work
Bachelor's degree in a work-related engineering discipline such as, but not limited to, Civil, Environmental, Geology, Hydrology, Water Resources, or Geography
An equivalent combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis
Valid Arizona driver's license upon hire
We Also Value

Proficiency in hydrology, engineering, or a related water resources field, with experience in surface water modeling software like HEC-1, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, or FLO-2D
Knowledge of ARC-GIS/ARCPro or other GIS software and understanding of FEMA's Flood Insurance Study products and Map Service Center
A master's degree in civil engineering or a related field, with preferred experience in sediment transport, scour analysis, river mechanics, and HEC-RAS modeling
Job Contributions

Perform, review, and approve designs, models, plans, and/or permits to ensure they meet District or regulatory standards
Manage consultant contracts in the preparation of design and construction documents for projects. Coordinate activities between various internal and external customers, county departments, and regulatory agencies to ensure deliverables meet schedule and quality requirements
Perform research and data gathering of technical datasets, historical information, and current projects to provide technical support and in response to requests from internal and external groups
Prepare and complete comprehensive engineering, progress, and metric reports
Perform construction inspections and approve field/plan changes that impact District structures
Working Conditions

Exerting up to 20 pounds occasionally, 10 pounds frequently, or negligible amounts constantly OR requires walking or standing to a significant degree
Position is typically office or administrative work and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions
Incumbent may be subjected to extreme temperatures, wetness/humidity, respiratory hazards, and noise and vibration
Incumbent may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, intense noises, and travel
