About the Position
Be part of a team that ensures accurate and critical water flow data is available for first responders, safety agencies, and residents of Maricopa County! In this position, you will work independently and as part of a team developing and updating flood response plans, monitoring the flood detection system, assisting with web development and programming, conducting public outreach, and assisting in the development of products/messages (including social media) being created and disseminated through the Flood Warning Program.

We Require

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Hydrology, Environmental Science, Geography, Meteorology, Environmental Science, Geographic Information Systems, or a related field
Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hire
We Also Value

Working knowledge of the Linux operating system and relational databases, ESRI ArcGIS, and multiple programming languages, including JavaScript/JSON, HTML5, CSS3, PHP, Python, and/or XML
Skilled in establishing effective working relationships with others; assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects, and demands; effective communication, including presentations; understanding and following instructions; use of time management skills to handle multiple tasks and follow through on tasks; customer service and public relations methods and practices; reading, understanding, manipulating, and analyzing geographic information in a variety of formats
In-depth knowledge of the hydrology, meteorology, and geography of central Arizona
Job Contributions

Contribute to the District's flood response planning efforts. Apply fundamental to intermediate engineering principles when developing and updating flood response plans, including identifying flood risks, disseminating critical information, and coordinating emergency response strategies across county and city agencies. Ensure the internal Warning Responsibilities materials and the District's Flood Emergency Response Manual are consistently maintained and updated
Monitor the flood warning program as part of the Flood Warning Team during storm events. Lend special expertise through distinctive knowledge of flood response plans, computer applications, meteorology, and hydrology. Maintain and update WebEOC and WebEOC training documents and assist with in-person training for the ALERT Operations Center for the District. Maintain and update the Maricopa County Department of Emergency Management Flood Response Manual
Use knowledge of ArcMap, ArcPro, and ArcGIS Online to create maps and figures, manage data, perform spatial analyses, and create scripts to automate tasks. Design, build, develop, test, and maintain website maps and applications using various graphic software applications, programming languages, and other related technology tools
Assist in developing, preparing, and issuing service products as stipulated by the flood warning program, including daily outlooks, forecasts, watches/warnings, and alerts
Represent the District in meetings with public agencies, private organizations, and educational groups to coordinate and participate in exercises related to Flood Response Plans
Working Conditions

Exerting up to 20 pounds occasionally, 10 pounds frequently, or negligible amounts constantly or requires walking or standing to a significant degree
The position is typically office or administrative work and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions

ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, MS Office 365, and Linux Operating Environment
Protective Equipment Required

PPE as needed when on construction sites or along roadways
