Manure Application Supervisor

JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary/Objective
An application Supervisor directs and coordinates the daily activities of workers engaged in custom manure application by performing the following duties personally or through direct reports.
Essential Functions

Demonstrates and explains work techniques and safety regulations to personnel.
Assist in recruiting and retaining employees.
Maintains Iowa DNR certificate to apply liquid manure and follows all Iowa DNR rules and guidelines for applying liquid manure.
Leads daily communication and scheduling with application customers.
Communicates with application manager to determine staff hours, number of personnel, and equipment required for each custom application job.
Assigns application personnel to routes or specific jobs to fulfill the client's request.
Plans or maps out hose and equipment set-up for each job site.
Performs a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor in custom application projects set-up, such as setting up hoses from the manure source to the field.
Performs routine equipment maintenance.
Operates and repairs Puck application equipment at customer locations as needed.
Leads the service work of application equipment during the off season and assigns tasks to application employees.
Understands the financial needs of the department and makes sound decisions to increase profitability.
Perform other duties as needed or assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position manages employees of the application department and is responsible for the performance management of the employees assigned to their crew.
Work Environment
During pumping season and while performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at farm job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. The position regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and manure. PPE worn as indicated by working environment.
During the off season for pumping and while performing the duties of this job, this position works in a service shop setting, with some outdoor exposure during the workday. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines, and standard service shop equipment.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
During pumping season, the position lifts heavy objects, walks and stands for long periods of time and performs strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions. The employee lifts, pushes, pulls or carries objects; uses abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue; and effectively jumps, sprints or throws objects. The position requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multilimbed coordination. The position requires the ability to quickly move arms and legs. The employee must have excellent stamina.
During the off season for pumping, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, twisting, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. This position will have surge periods throughout the year and requires long hours and weekend work.
Travel
Travel is expected. Some work sites are local, but there are work sites out-of-the-area and overnight travel is expected.
Required Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent.
5+ years of related experience with agriculture equipment or machines.
Preferred Education and Experience
2 year technical degree
2+ years of experience leading a team.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
Must possess or be able to obtain a valid and appropriate state driver's license prior to employment.
