Role Overview

The Student Development Manager (SDM) plays a crucial role in executing and managing co-curricular and out-of-school programs that enable students to discover and pursue their passions. The SDM will be the instructional and operational leader of various projects, overseeing all phases from planning to launch and quality monitoring. This role will report directly to the Academy Leader.

Lead the instructional strategy for all projects, ensuring continuous data collection on quality and providing consistent feedback to stakeholders.
Manage and develop external project leaders, which includes hiring, onboarding, training, and coaching for instructional excellence.
Build and maintain partnerships with external organizations overseeing projects, internships, and summer programs to guarantee enriching experiences for students.
Support teachers in the school to effectively lead or assist projects.
Assist student leaders and faculty advisors in the planning and facilitation of projects.
Oversee all logistics for competitive clubs participating in tournaments.
Manage the grant for Student Development initiatives, including budget proposals, management, meticulous record-keeping, and hosting site visits.
Communicate successes and updates regarding Student Development through internal and external channels, including press releases.
Ensure all project stakeholders have access to high-quality materials and maintain safe storage and inventory of these resources.
Organize and lead 2-3 school-wide events centered on Student Development (such as project showcases or pop-up restaurants).
Establish systems in line with school operations for managing daily project tasks.

Qualifications

A strong dedication to the mission of Uncommon Schools and a commitment to anti-racist practices.
Proven experience in overseeing large projects from inception to completion with accountability for various stakeholders.
An entrepreneurial and creative mindset with a willingness to take bold actions to elevate program quality.
Adept at influencing and driving change through effective relationship management, clearly communicating expectations, and problem-solving to improve stakeholder performance.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, complemented by strong interpersonal abilities with teammates, teachers, students, and other stakeholders.
Ability to maintain professionalism and composure amid competing demands and pressures.
Proficient in digital tools, including database management and the Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong time management capabilities to handle multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines.
Experience in managing teams is preferred.
A minimum of 2 years of experience in instructional or K-12 operational roles is required.
A Bachelor's degree is necessary.

Compensation and Benefits

The starting salary for this role is between $57,000 and $89,000 based on professional experience, education, training, and other relevant factors.
