Position Overview

• Production-oriented Cost Accountant - Reporting to the CFO, we are seeking an accounting professional to grow our team, with their focus primarily on analyzing and managing the costs directly associated with the production process within a fulfillment company, tracking expenses like materials, labor, and overhead to identify areas for cost optimization and improve overall production efficiency. This position is hybrid but will require on most weeks at least 3 days working from our location in East Bridgewater, MA.

Key responsibilities:

• Cost analysis:

Breaking down production costs into individual components (direct materials, direct labor, manufacturing overhead) to identify and create a system of forecasting the production cost, and then report the cause and drivers for variances between forecasted costs and actual costs.

• Inventory valuation:

Accurately calculating the imbedded labor and overhead cost by tracking inventory movements throughout the production process.

• Variance analysis:

Investigating the reasons behind cost discrepancies and identifying areas for improvement in production processes.

• Reporting:

Preparing detailed reports for management highlighting cost trends, potential cost-saving opportunities, and the impact of production changes on profitability.

• Standard costing:

Establishing a system of standard costs for production processes and comparing them to actual costs to identify areas of inefficiency.

• Production planning and budgeting:

Collaborating with production managers to develop budgets and monitor cost performance against those plans.

Key skills:

• Strong understanding of cost accounting principles and methodologies
• Expertise in manufacturing processes and operations
• Ability to analyze large datasets and identify trends
• Excellent communication skills to present findings to management
• Proficiency in ERP systems, particularly NetSuite and Microsoft D365
• Ability to work independently and approximately 5% travel
