About the Organization:

The Division of Occupational Licensure (DOL), an agency within the Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation (OCABR), protects consumers by making sure the professionals they hire comply with state licensing laws.
DOL oversees 26 boards of registration, which license and regulate more than 500,000 individuals and businesses to practice over 100 trades and professions.
The mission of DOL is to protect the public health, safety and welfare by licensing qualified individuals and businesses to provide services to consumers.
In addition, it is the duty of the DOL to ensure fair and consistent enforcement of the licensing laws and regulations.

About the Role:

The Architectural Access Board ('AAB' or 'Board') is one of the boards within DOL's Office of Public Safety and Inspections ('OPSI').
The mission of the AAB is to develop and enforce rules and regulations (521 CMR) intended to make public buildings accessible, functional, and safe for use by persons with disabilities.
The AAB accomplishes this mission primarily through a combination of education and enforcement initiatives.
The Compliance Officer I ('CO I') investigates complaints of non-compliance with the Board's regulations.
As requested, the CO I conducts on-site inspections of buildings, and files reports regarding compliance with 521 CMR.
The CO I also meets with parties having business with the Board to review plans and conducts training, seminars, and performs related work as required.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Investigate complaints received by the Board alleging violations of Board statutes and regulations, and requests for variances.
Counsel parties having business with the Board in procedures to be followed.
Inspect buildings which are subject of a complaint or a request for variance.
Review architectural plans and meet with architects and developers to discuss compliance with Board statutes and regulations.
Prepare concise written reports of the results of inspections for presentation to the Board.
As requested, conduct training seminars for building inspectors, architects, advocacy groups as well as the general public.
Advise the public on the general applicability of Board statutes and regulations.
Attend conferences and meetings at the request of the Board.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Must be able to identify DOL priorities, rank these priorities in importance and be able to effectively multitask.
Must be familiar with investigative, inspectional and prosecutorial techniques and processes.
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Must be proficient in software programs necessary to support the programs of the Agency.
Be willing to identify and participate in training opportunities for the benefit of the Board and the Division.
Ability to accurately record information provided verbally and gather information by examining records and documents.
Ability to analyze and determine the applicability of data, to draw conclusions and make appropriate recommendations.
Ability to exercise discretion in handling confidential information.
Ability to establish rapport with persons from different ethnic, cultural and/or economic backgrounds.
Ability to maintain a calm manner in stressful situations and work independently with minimal supervision.
Knowledge or experience in universal design, construction standards, building codes, and demonstrated ability to work with the general public.

Minimum Entrance Requirements:
Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in investigatory, law enforcement or regulatory administration work, or (B) an equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
Substitutions:

A Bachelor's or higher degree may be substituted for the required experience.
