JOB SUMMARY
The Medical Lab Technician performs laboratory analyses, evaluates laboratory results and reports results. Recognizes and solves basic laboratory problems and assists in maintenance of laboratory systems.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Associate Degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution.
Experience:
N/A
Licensure/Certification/Registration:
AMT Certification or ASCP Certification as Medical Lab Technician (MLT) within twelve (12) months of hire into position. If hired prior to 11/4/2010, ASCP certification as MLT is not required.BLS Certification with a designation of either BLS Provider or Healthcare Provider from either the American Heart Association or American Red Cross or Military Training Network within ninety (90) days of hire.

Knowledge of lab safety practices; knowledge of all lab departments state of the art policies and procedures; knowledge of general lab test results and correlations with physiological condition; ability to maintain and repair instrumentation and equipment; ability to understand and follow complex oral and written communication; extensive ability to perform duties accurately and efficiently while often under stress; ability to organize work and meet deadlines; ability to be technically adept in all departments of the laboratory; ability to be rigidly accurate in the identification and reporting of numbers, names and results.
READING
• Intermediate: Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
WRITING
• Intermediate: Ability to write routine reports, correspondence, or procedures.
SPEAKING
• Intermediate: Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one, small group situations or before groups of customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
• Intermediate Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals and to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw or interpret bar graphs to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY
• Intermediate Skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
