Position Summary
The Licensed Practical Nurse, or LPN, works under the supervision of the RN Team Leader. Functions within the team to provide total patient care. Assists the registered nurse in planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care of assigned patients. Performs clinical procedures permitted within the scope of practice, and in accordance with the policies of the Nursing Department. Promotes cooperation, a positive attitude and creates a safe environment for both patients and staff. Responsible for knowing and adhering to established hospital policies and procedures, including all aspects of safety.
Duties of an LPN may include the following but are not limited to:
Assists the RN Team Leader in utilizing the nursing process to provide patient care
Keeps RN Team Leader informed regarding problems and needs of district
Utilizes equipment and technology to implement nursing interventions and/or treatments according to Hospital practices and policies and procedures
Recognizes changes in patients' physical and psychosocial conditions and reports findings to RN
Assists in evaluating the quality and outcome of patient care
Provides care for patients undergoing clinical procedures
Administers medication safely and within the scope of practice and established protocols
Performs procedures related to diseases/conditions in accordance with established policies and procedures, and within scope of practice
Required Qualifications:
Current New York State Licensed Practical Nurse License required
BLS Certification from American Heart Association required
Excellent interpersonal, telephone, and computer skills required
Must possess ability to function independently
Standing, walking 90% of the time
Lifting patients with or without assistance

Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services*
Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
Successfully complete a 4 panel drug screen*
Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre employment screenings.
Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.

SUNY Stony Brook Hospital is responsible for the operation of the hospital and provision of health care and is the co-employer as is necessary to conduct its responsibilities and for related licensure, regulatory or statutory requirements and obligations.
Given StaffCo's employment responsibilities, it is deemed the 'employer' for employment and labor law purposes.
Thus, the employees are private sector employees of StaffCo, not public sector employees of SUNY.
The private sector nature of the StaffCo employees has been approved by NYS Civil Service and upheld in a decision by the US National Labor Relations Board.
