The Lead Fabricator is a member of the fabrication team and works side by side with the other team members fabricating various assemblies. He / She will have the required skills to fabricate parts, pieces or products using a variety of tools and equipment according to required specifications with minimum supervision, along with an understanding of measuring parts, reading and understanding Prints/Diagrams.
The Lead Fabricator has a working understanding of all the tasks and responsibilities required of the Fabrication Department, and can rotate through most if not all job tasks where required in order keep the Projects on-track. He/she may be involved in management decisions affecting the finished product when working with upper management.
The Lead Fabricator is responsible for the overall day to day operations within the department, and that all processes, procedures, and standards are met.
The Lead Fabricator ensures that all fabrication projects are built per established AEC standards and specifications, are finished at or under budget, and completed according to the project deliverables.
RESPONSIBILITIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Responsible to see that direct reports are 100% utilized at all times.
Participate in all project Kick-off/ Design Review, and Release Meetings.
Attend weekly status meetings with the Production Manager and Department Leads.
Oversee and ensure that all direct reports are utilized 100% in fabrication or sent to other departments to cross train or provide support.
Collaborate closely with all other departments and managers.
Ensure accurate weekly time keeping and daily job tracking.
Enforce all AEC policies, procedures, standards, expectations as pertains to safety, quality, attendance and job performance.
Participate in Performance and raise reviews for direct reports.
Drive Project deliverables (budget, schedule, etc.).
Demonstrate and Reinforce LEAN and 5S principles in the shop.
Work closely with Engineering, logistics and purchasing to minimize costs, reduce mistakes, streamline assembly practices and inventory control/management.
Review work orders or other instructions to determine product specifications or materials requirements, and anticipate materials, tools or supplies needed.
Plan production requirements, in order to me meet customer demands.
Review and approve all purchase requests from Direct Reports
Keeps equipment operational by ensuring manufacturer's preventive maintenance requirements for the machines and tools are being followed, and that all shop equipment is kept in functional condition.
Documents actions by completing production and quality forms.
Resolves shop and personnel issues/conflicts, instills an environment of positivity and quality, while setting a personal example of professionalism at all times.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Most work is performed in an office and shop environment. Regular trips to client facility and/or manufacturing plant is also required. Sound knowledge of safety standards within the shop and manufacturing environment, including exposure to regulated hazardous chemicals and equipment is necessary to safely use and operate in such environments.
At times travel will be required as well as working evenings, weekends and/or holidays which is done to support client needs during any shutdowns and/or scheduled maintenance.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to move between standing and sitting. The employee frequently is required to walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms including pushing and pulling; talk, hear and see to communicate and ensure safety procedures are followed. The employee must frequently lift or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move objects up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, vision and ability to adjust focus.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
• Completion of a welding degree/certificate or equivalent training
• Ability to perform required visual inspection of parts.
• Must be able to produce and qualify parts to ensure quality standards with blueprints.
• Attention to detail when fabricating new parts.
• Ability to hold close tolerances and conduct component inspections.
• Ability to perform with a minimum of direct supervision.
• Understand and read CAD drawings.
• Experience welding, both MIG and TIG.
• High School diploma or equivalent.
