A Law Enforcement Victim Witness Coordinator implements the Sheriff's Victim-Witness Assistance Program, offering vital support through crisis intervention counseling, court support, social services referrals, community education, and training. This role is dedicated to guiding and empowering victims and witnesses, ensuring they receive the care and assistance they need while contributing to a compassionate and effective support system. The position is located in the Ada County Sheriff's Office, Police Services Bureau.
SHIFT INFORMATION
Monday - Friday; 8 hour, day shifts. Required to be on call 24/7 typically one week out of every 7 weeks.

Essential Functions
Support - Coordinates and provides essential support, guidance, and short-term crisis intervention to survivors, victims, and witnesses of domestic violence, sexual assault, and other crimes against vulnerable populations; may also provide transportation to appropriate housing or services;
Program Coordination - Coordinates program operations with other segments of the law enforcement/criminal justice system to ensure effectiveness of operations;
Agency Liaison - Maintains liaison with programs operated by other agencies to provide technical assistance and service coordination;
Educational Outreach - Delivers educational presentations to law enforcement, schools, other criminal justice agencies, and community organizations;
On-Call Response - Responds to hospitals, homes, or crime scenes to assist detectives with victims and witnesses during evening hours and weekends, in accordance with on-call policy;
Data Management - Maintains statistical data relevant to the Victim-Witness Assistance Program;
Interview Assistance - Assists victims and witnesses during interviews with attorneys and law enforcement officials by providing psychological and emotional support;
Restitution Coordination - Works directly with the Restitution Administrator to ensure coordination between the Restitution and Victim-Witness Programs;
Service Assessment - Conducts interviews with victims and witnesses to determine needed services and ensures effective delivery of existing services;
Additional Duties - Performs related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, social work or a related field;
At least three years of experience in victim advocacy field and/or law enforcement preferred;
Knowledge of the objectives of victim-witness programs;
Knowledge of the processes involved in the Criminal Justice System;
Knowledge of principles and practices of applied sociology and psychology;
Knowledge of data collection practices;
Knowledge of public relations contact techniques;
Skill in crisis counseling and/or direct service delivery;
Ability to understand and work within the goals and objectives of the Sheriff's Office as they relate to this program and integrate them into viable work plans;
Ability to work within the court system, social work values and ethical standards;
Ability to obtain the cooperation of others;
Ability to relate well with juveniles;
Ability to maintain confidentiality;
Ability to provide short-term crisis intervention to victims;
Ability to maintain effective working relationships;
Ability to understand and follow verbal and written direction;
Ability to communicate effectively with individuals of various social-economic levels; and
Ability to provide direct support to victims as needed.
Other Requirements
Incumbents must appear before an oral board and successfully complete a polygraph and background check;
This position has been designated safety sensitive and therefore the incumbent is subject to random drug testing.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
Work is performed in an office environment and in a field setting;
The incumbent is required to assist clients in a variety of settings such as private homes and public places such as offices, hospitals, court, jails, etc.;
The incumbent is required to attend meetings, interview persons and otherwise conduct the normal business outside regular business hours.
