Job Summary:
The Interventional Tech - Reg. Respiratory Therapist (IT - RRT), is a health care professional that, through the utilization of specialized equipment and supplies while under the direction of a qualified physician, assists with trans-catheter procedures on adult patients resulting in accurate diagnosis and/or optimal treatment of congenital or acquired heart and/or peripheral vascular disease while maintaining maximum patient safety. This position is responsible for sterile procedural assistance, operation of specialty equipment, and support of departmental operations and patient care. The IT - RRT , under the direction of the nurse, communicates/updates patients and families awaiting care and treatment. Upon physician's orders, assesses patients' pulmonary status, determines appropriateness of orders and administers various modes supportive or restorative of therapy, with or without medical gases or pharmacological agents to restore normal cardio-pulmonary function.

Demonstrate respect, dignity, kindness and empathy in each encounter with all patients, families, visitors and other employees regardless of cultural background.

Acts as assistant during diagnostic and therapeutic sterile procedures to assure completeness of case.
Applies principles of radiation safety and protection
Participates as a member of the patient care delivery team.
Peripheral IV insertions
Performs EKG's, cardiac monitoring,
Assists with lifting and transporting patients, intra-departmental transport with cardiac monitoring, vital signs, and other duties as delegated by the nursing staff within scope of training.
Follows all policies and procedures in the collection of blood and urine samples and in the performance of EKG's, in an accurate and timely fashion
Administer medications as ordered by a physician and within the scope of paramedic licensure as directed under the state protocols
Pharmacology interventions documented with the response to the intervention.
Fluid monitoring as indicated for any patient with a running IV. Including documentation of site.
Oxygen may be initiated based on clinical judgment and assessment of the patient per physician protocol.
Communicates all clinical care with primary nurse
Assists nursing staff with medical record keeping processes, utilizes EMR to document procedure within scope of practice
Maintains equipment and supplies to ensure decontamination, disinfection, sterilization of supplies.
Maintenance of a clean, safe and organized work environment.
Follows work related duties in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
Completes all required safety, infection control and age specific programs as prescribed.
Documents and communicates effects and effectiveness of therapy administered to ensure continuity of care between other members of the health care team.
Uses background knowledge and clinical skill to mentor students from clinical affiliates.
Reviews the pre-procedural patient assessment to obtain adequate information, communicate pertinent data to MD and ensure appropriate imaging and patient safety.
Assist in the education process of new employees, mentors students and other healthcare professionals observing in the department
Assist in the development of performance improvement activities in the department , to include ideas, data collection, data analysis and implementing change to ensure best practice in the department.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education, Credentials, Licenses:

Registered Respiratory Therapist as described by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
Holds current mandatory certification in the state to practice Respiratory Therapy in the state where work is being performed.
Associates degree in applied science or equivalent.
All Registered respiratory therapists must maintain their credential as described in the Continuing Competency of the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC). Failure to maintain the credential will result in a demotion transfer to Respiratory Technician until their credential is reinstated by the NBRC
Specialized Knowledge:

Understanding of radiation protection and sterile technique
Ability to perform vital sign checks including assessment and reassessment of physical pain
Cardiac and hemodynamic monitoring
Knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology
Kind and Length of Experience:

Successful completion of preceptorship and orientation to the facility and clinical area.
Able to critically think and problem solve in routine and emergency situations.
