This is semi-skilled work involving the hygienic care of vehicle interiors to insure passenger comfort. Employees work under general supervision. Work is supervised or assisted as needed by a higher level maintenance employee or supervisor.

Workdays and Hours: Monday - Saturday: 4:30PM-1:00AM Examples of Work Performed

Complete cleaning of the interior of all vehicles.
Complete cleaning of exterior and windows on all vehicles.
Checks and maintains fluid levels and tire pressures on cutaway vans and/or support vehicles.
Cleaning of transit facility and related properties.
Assists the mechanics and other garage personnel in cleaning of transit equipment and components.
Handling of farebox vaults.
Maintenance and repair of facilities, grounds, signage, bus stops and shelters.

Requirements of Work

Working knowledge of using cleaning materials for cleaning vehicle interiors and all exterior windows.
Working knowledge of using cleaning materials for cleaning the transit facilities and properties.
Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
Ability to lift/carry bulky objects weighing up to 50 pounds (any heavier than 50 pounds then need to be able to lift with the assistance of another person) for distances of up to 100 feet.
Ability to push, pull and control equipment weighing up to 350 pounds, up and down narrow ramps while operating hand and/or foot controls.
Ability to climb a six foot ladder while carrying in one hand, cleaning equipment weighing up to 20 pounds.
Ability to tolerate minor exposure to chemical fumes and contact used in custodial work.
Ability to lift, bend, squat, kneeling, stoop, twist, and stretch up to seven and one-half hours as required in cleaning and dusting windows, desk, counter tops, tables and legs, chairs and legs, door frames, urinals, stools, mirrors, stairs, overhead vents, light fixtures, walls, and remove and replace parts.
Ability to push/pull with up to 50 pounds of force to maneuver/handle equipment around work area.
Ability to safely climb up/down ladders while handling materials/supplies that may be awkward in handling.
Ability to safely walk and carry materials/supplies that may be awkward in handling.
Ability to handle/operate necessary equipment to complete work.
Ability to work in inclement and extreme weather conditions including (but not limited to) rain, snow, ice, sleet, heat, and humidity.
Ability to demonstrate safe body mechanics while performing/completing work.
Ability to perform all above mentioned tasks on an infrequent basis, or higher.
Ability to empty trash bags / containers weighing up to 40 pounds and lifting them up to 48 inches.
Ability to lift a 40 pound bucket of water up to 34 inches high and / or move it up to six feet.
Ability to service buses: fueling, checking and adding fluids, changing fare box vaults, general interior cleaning and parking buses for the next morning pullout.
Ability to climb and make repairs as high as 25' off the ground.
Working knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
Ability to perform bus change outs.
Ability to maintain a valid Kansas driver's license.
An employee shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.

Required Experience and Training
Required Experience:

6 months experience as a janitor or porter preferred
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Have a Valid Driver's License
2 years of unrestricted licensed driving experience required.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need of a sponsorship.

This position is represented by Teamsters Local 795 and includes Teamsters pension.

This position may require pre-employment testing at any or all of the following: Workforce Center, City of Wichita Human Resources department or the Transit department.

This is a safety-sensitive position that requires the most recent two-year Drug and Alcohol testing records and accident records.

CITY OF WICHITA

FULL-TIME EMPLOYEE BENEFITS

1. VACATION - Most employees with less than five years employment earn 10 days of vacation per year. After five years, accrual rates increase at varying rates to varying maximums, depending on work schedule and/or union representation. Employees can accumulate and carry forward up to 240 hours each year.

2. HOLIDAYS - There are eleven paid holidays. Employees also receive one Personal Holiday that is granted after the first six months of employment.

3. SICK LEAVE - Sick leave accrual begins at one-half day per month. After five years, sick leave accruals are one work day per month. Employees can accumulate and carry forward all unused sick leave each year. Employees who use 24 hours (3 days) or less of sick leave in a calendar year earn a "Well Day. " An additional "Well Day" can be earned following a year of perfect attendance.

4. HEALTH INSURANCE - UMR / United Healthcare provides two levels of medical and prescription drug plans. Both medical plan are PPOs and do not require selecting a physician or referrals for specialty care. Both medical plans include Teladoc virtual care (primary care/mental health benefits at no charge), Dario healthy living programs, and VSP Vision benefits. Pre-tax premium deductions are offered. The City contributes 80% of the premium cost towards medical, prescription drug and vision insurance.
5. DENTAL INSURANCE - Two Delta Dental plans are offered - Preferred and Traditional. The Delta Preferred plan requires using a dentist from a smaller network for a lower premium. The Delta Traditional plan allows use of any dentist, although benefits are higher using a dentist from the large Delta network. Benefits under both plans are the same (with the exception of some Orthodontic benefits) Pre-tax premium deductions are offered.
6. LIFE INSURANCE - Low-cost voluntary term life insurance is available. Employees pay one-third of the cost. The amount of Basic Life coverage is two times annual pay up to a determined maximum amount.
