The Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC) currently has a vacancy for an unclassified Database Administrator for the Topeka, Kansas location. The KCC is a multi-faceted agency responsible for regulating public utilities including electric, natural gas, telecommunication and water companies as well as motor carriers, oil and gas pipelines and oil and gas natural production activities. The Commission's headquarters is in Topeka with the central Conservation office in Wichita and four Conservation district offices located in Dodge City, Wichita, Chanute and Hays.

Position Summary & ResponsibilitiesPosition Summary:THIS POSITION IS LOCATED IN TOPEKA, KANSAS and may be eligible for a hybrid (telecommuting) schedule following an evaluation period.

IT Database Administration work includes designing, configuring, and managing databases to ensure the integrity, security and accessibility of the organization's data including:
- Defining standards for physical data storage, maintenance, access, and security administration.
- Performing backup and recovery using Database Management Systems.
- Configuring database parameters and defining data repository requirements, data dictionaries, and warehousing requirements.
- Designing and implementing approaches to improve database performance, capacity, and scalability.

QualificationsEducation:

High School Diploma/GED or completion of a technical school program in information technology, or a relevant field.

Minimum Required Experience:

One year of experience working in designing, coding, testing and debugging database programs.
Familiarity with server operating systems and simple database management.

Technical Skills:

Knowledge of data base manipulation languages and scripting like PowerShell, PHP, Python, Rueby, or Perl.
Knowledge of SQL languages.
Need to be able to create and understand database design documentation.
Knowledge of REST data services.
Knowledge of the Linux operating system.

Preferred Certification:

Certifications related to database fundamentals, database management systems (DBMS), or specific technologies used such as: Oracle Certified Associate (OCA), Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, AWS Certified Database

Preferred Qualifications:

Ability to clearly, effectively, and respectfully communicate in a business environment both orally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with Agency personnel, business associates, industry, the general public and state and federal officials.
Possess independent thinking and problem-solving skills and analytical thought to deal with the variety of responsibilities associated with this position including making decisions while working independently, and planning/projecting future operational needs.
Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Outlook.
