Individuals within commuting distance of Hawaii who have graduated from an accredited educational institute or certificate program within the last 2 years or 4 years for veterans.

Duties

You will assist engineers and technicians in preparing work and/or test procedures necessary for repair, overhaul and testing of ships systems.
You will assist engineers and technicians in preparing changes to specific technical procedures, both locally developed or detailed technical requirements established by higher authority.
You will apply basic, common rules and procedures for repair of naval ship systems and components.
You will perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements Conditions of Employment

Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

This is a bargaining unit position.
You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e. g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

For GS-05:

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: applying basic or commonly used rules or procedures of engineering to assist assist engineers or technicians.

For GS-04:

Your resume must also demonstrate at least 6 months of general experience or 6 months of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-03 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: applying basic or commonly used rules or procedures of engineering.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e. g. , professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Education

Substitution of education for experience:

For GS-05:

4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with major study in an appropriate field of engineering, construction or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics.

OR

A combination of education and experience as described above that equates to one year of experience.

For GS-04:

2 years of post-secondary study that included at least 12 semester hours in any combination of courses such as engineering, engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics;

OR

A combination of education and experience as described above that equates to one year of experience.

Additional information

This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.
