Data Engineering Manager

Data Engineering Manager in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Full-Time opportunity, Monday-Friday, 8:00 am- 5:00 pm.

Must be available to work on-site three days a week: Tuesday and Thursday, plus one more day of choice.

Under the direction of the Manager, this role is responsible for leading the data engineers and architects in the design, development, and implementation of scalable data solutions that meet the organization's strategic goals. This involves driving the architecture of data systems, ensuring the integrity, availability, and security of data, and overseeing the management of data pipelines and infrastructure. This thought leader will collaborate with cross-functional teams to align data strategies with business objectives and will play a key role in guiding the organization's data-driven initiatives, guiding us towards a modern data infrastructure, designing solutions, creating roadmaps, and driving the execution of those plans.

Responsibilities

• Strategic Leadership

• Develops and executes a strategic vision for data architecture and engineering that aligns with the organization's goals.

• Leads and mentors a team of data engineers, architects, and other technical professionals to include staffing, scheduling, compensation, performance management, training and development, succession planning and affirmative action to effectively utilize group and individual capabilities and enhance individual/group development and performance.

• Collaborates with executives and stakeholders to define data strategy, governance, and management practices.

• Responsible for the timely and effective management of HR forms and documents relevant to immediate staff.

• Data Architecture

• Designs and oversees the implementation of robust data architectures that support the collection, storage, processing, and analysis of large datasets.

• Ensures the scalability, reliability, and performance of data systems across the organization.

• Leads the selection of technology stacks and tools, keep abreast of emerging technologies and trends

• Data Engineering

• Oversees the development and maintenance of data pipelines, ETL processes, and data warehousing solutions.

• Ensures data quality, consistency, and accuracy across all data sources and systems.

• Implements best practices for data management, including data modeling, storage, and retrieval strategies.

• Collaboration and Stakeholder Management

• Works closely with analytics, technology, product, and business teams to understand data needs and translate them into actionable engineering tasks.

• Partners with information security teams to ensure compliance with data privacy regulations and to implement data security best practices.

• Continuous Improvement

• Continuously evaluates and improves data infrastructure, processes, and systems to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

• Performs other miscellaneous responsibilities and duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics, and/or related field from an accredited institution or equivalent work experience.

• Minimum 15 years of data engineering and architecture experience with at least 6 years in leadership. Preferred knowledge and experience with the financial services ecosystem - retail banking, lending, capital markets, wealth management, and/or payments.

• Should be capable of driving operations, delivery efforts, and change programs at scale for data analytics, data science, and other relevant domains. Ability to develop strategies to migrate from legacy to more innovative environments, such as data architecture and management, microservices, ETL pipeline architectures, and data visualization capabilities. Ability to navigate and drive change through a matrix organization with ingrained legacy systems, processes, and practices.

• Strategic and hands-on leader who drives innovation and performance. They must have core operational management skills that allow the individual to be successful and relate to others, project management skills that define project work elements, sequencing and scheduling, resource management, communication, risk management, etc. Must be able to build relationships and gain credibility quickly; strong negotiation and influencing skills are essential. Highly motivated self-starter with strong communication skills. Able to work flexible hours, including holidays, weekends, and evenings, as needed. Travels by air as required.
