The RN Clinical Nurse Critical Care is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed caregivers.
They ensure that patients, families, and significant others receive individualized high quality, safe patient care.
The clinical environment is administered by Nurse Managers and other leaders.
The practice is supported through a shared governance model.
The RN follows a framework for practice guided by professional practice models and evidence-based practice and research.
It is expected that all RN Clinical Nurses in Critical Care are licensed and uphold the practice of nursing as outlined by the Professional Nurse Practice Act.
They implement the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards set by the American Nurses Association.
As a member of the patient services team, the RN upholds patient voice, system policies, and procedures while supporting service excellence goals.
Core responsibilities include exemplary practice and outcomes such as performing the nursing process, using analytical/critical thinking, and coordinating care through effective partnerships.
The RN provides relationship-based patient-centered care and collaborates with patients and significant others as appropriate.
They practice using current clinical practice standards and demonstrate teamwork and collaboration.
The RN coordinates the delivery and documentation of safe quality patient care.
They participate and support performance improvement activities, including initiating and/or leading such activities.
Professional development is emphasized by completing competency assessments and mandatory education.
The RN may serve as a preceptor or mentor for other nurses and staff.
The role promotes evidence-based practice, nursing research, and performance improvement.
The RN upholds all healthcare system policies and procedures.
They participate in data collection and consult appropriate resources to address practice questions.
The RN proactively plans for patient care across the continuum and supports efficient and effective use of human and material resources.
They comply with all organizational standards of work and code of conduct.
The required minimum education includes a diploma from an accredited nursing program and a baccalaureate degree in nursing is preferred.
Preferred skills include strong interpersonal and collaborative skills, the ability to function in a fast-paced environment and time management skills.
