Position Summary

Morehouse School of Medicine is seeking a qualified Certified Nurse Midwife. The midwife hired into this position will provide comprehensive primary health care to a population of essentially healthy women including antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum care of pregnant woman. The incumbent will participates in the care of women with medical complications in collaboration with Obstetricians Gynecologists and /or other physicians and health professionals as is indicated by presenting problem. The position requires a considerable degree of independent skills and judgment necessary to monitor and respond to changes in patient conditions. The incumbent will work in both hospital and clinic healthcare environments with some exposure to biological hazards and infectious diseases. Engagement in clinical education is an expectation of the position.

Major areas of responsibility include:

Perform accurate history and physical examination on essentially health women concluding with diagnosis and treatment.

Provide primary care to pregnant women including ordering and evaluation of diagnostic tests and management of minor complications.

Provide inpatient and outpatient obstetrical care for essentially healthy women.

Provide individualized client teaching and counseling and anticipatory guidance for the current identified problem, weeks' gestation and social/cultural situation.

Complete necessary documentation, mark billing encounter form appropriately.

Instruct and supervise/precept medical students and residents as assigned. Ensures a positive learning environment for all instructed and/or supervised

Participate in research, service statistics collections and continuing education activities.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Current License as a Registered Nurse in the State of Georgia.

Current License as a Certified Nurse Midwife or Licensed Midwife.

Graduate of an accredited Nursing program or Masters in Nurse Midwifery program.

Minimum of two (2) years or more of nurse midwifery experience

BCLS certification
