Purpose of Classification:

The City of Sandy Springs is seeking a reliable and enthusiastic Seasonal Part-Time Ice Rink Shift Supervisor to join our team during the winter season. As a Shift Supervisor, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations and ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for our ice rink visitors. This position requires excellent communication and leadership skills, as well as a passion for customer service

Dates: November 15 - January 20 is our ice rink season. Some required availability over the holidays, including Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day.

Responsibilities:

• Supervise and lead a team of ice rink and ticket attendants during assigned shifts.

• Ensure the ice rink is prepared and maintained to a high standard of safety and cleanliness.

• Assists with ice rink opening and closing procedures, including scraping and resurfacing ice (no prior experience needed), moving rink-side equipment into place, preparing skates for use. Monitor ice rink activities and enforce safety rules to ensure the well-being of all visitors.

• Provide exceptional customer service by addressing inquiries, resolving issues, and assisting patrons as needed.

• Handle online reservations and in-person transactions for admissions, skate rentals, and maintain accurate records.

• Train and mentor ice rink attendants on best practices and customer service protocols.

• Coordinate with the Venue Operations Manager to maintain inventory levels of equipment and supplies.

• Monitor ice rink capacity and enforce capacity restrictions during peak hours.

• Collaborate with Director of Operations and Venue Operations Manager to address any ice rink equipment issues or maintenance needs.

• Conduct routine inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.

• Provide support during special events, including setup, crowd management, and event coordination.

• Safely operate the ice resurfacer (training provided).

• Performs skate sharpening duties that comply with all related safety requirements (training provided).

• Handle any emergencies or incidents that may arise and follow the appropriate protocols.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to lift 45 pounds.

• Requires climbing, reaching, bending, pulling, and lifting.

• Some work is done on a slippery surface and varying environments, including cold temperatures.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Available nights, weekends, and some holidays, including Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve, and New Years Day.
• Select holidays are paid time and a half

• Previous experience in ice rink operations, customer service, or a related field is preferred.

• Strong leadership and communication skills.

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks effectively.

• Basic knowledge of ice rink safety rules and protocols.

• Basic math skills.

• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.

• Ability to work in cold temperatures for extended periods.

• Skating experience is a plus.

ADA Compliance:

Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert medium physical effort in light to medium work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials up to 20 pounds. Tasks may involve balancing, bending, climbing, crouching, handling, kneeling, reaching, repetitive motion, stooping, walking, and extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation. Some work is done on a slippery surface.

Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Environmental Factors: Essential functions are regularly performed with exposure to adverse environmental conditions. Requires the ability to work in a cold outdoor environment.
