Rewarding practice opportunity with the Veterans Administration in Las Vegas, NV. The duties of an anesthesiologist include the care of a patient during the perioperative period. An anesthesiologist also serves as a subject matter expert for the facility in airway management, anesthetic/sedation drug management, and pain management. VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System is an intermediate complexity facility with a diverse inpatient and outpatient population.
• Evaluate, diagnose, treat, and provide consultation for patients of all ages in the perioperative or periprocedural period
• Serve as an expert in airway management including specialized techniques such as fiberoptic bronchoscopy, video laryngoscopy, and one lung ventilation
• Document and review patients' histories
• Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests
• Use specialized equipment including, but not limited to specialized monitoring devices, laryngoscopes, bronchoscopes, ventilators, and ultrasounds
• Evaluate for and perform anesthetics including monitored anesthesia care, general anesthesia, and/or regional anesthesia as is appropriate for the patient
• Placement of invasive monitoring as is appropriate for the patient
• Provide acute and chronic pain management
• Prescribe and administering treatments in all aspects of the specialty
• Provide consultations or referring patients to specialists
• Conduct and supervise direct patient care
• Explain the risks, dangers, and expectations to patients
• Consultations and follow-up in both the outpatient and inpatient areas
• Quality testing and referral for maintenance of equipment
• Plan and execute disease prevention and health promotion
• Exercise command of medical and surgical care as provided by law and regulations
• Conduct medical research whenever appropriate, and participate in education and training of related personnel
• Participate in on-call schedule in a responsive and timely manner
• Collaborate and participate in multi-disciplinary care
• Maintain the Medical Records as required by the Health Records Policy
• Timely response to clinical emergencies
ADMINISTRATIVE
• Participate in all meetings and other initiatives of the respective Section, Service, and the Hospital
• Participate in quality assurance projects/patient safety initiatives in the department and facility
• Provide daily guidance on operating room scheduling and flow
• Maintain CME and licensure as required by the licensing Board(s)
• Teach Residents and Fellows
• Enhance departmental and organizational reputation
• Maintain confidentiality of all health information and records according to Federal guidelines and regulation
