Fleet Maintenance Technician
The Fleet Maintenance Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and performing preventive maintenance on diesel engines, trailers, lift gates, and related mechanical components in heavy vehicles and equipment. This role requires extensive knowledge of diesel engines, mechanical systems, trailers, lift gate operations, and various material handling equipment.
The fleet Maintenance Manager reports to the Fleet Maintenance Manager. This is a non-exempt position.
Primary Job Responsibilities & Objectives:
Diagnose Engine and Mechanical Issues:
Identify and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems in diesel engines, including engine, transmission, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
Trailer and Lift Gate Maintenance:
Inspect, maintain, and repair trailers and lift gates to ensure proper functionality and safety. This includes checking hydraulics, structural components, and electrical systems, as well as roll-up doors, operators, flooring, landing gear, and cross member repairs.
Perform Repairs:
Conduct repairs, such as replacing defective parts, repairing worn components, and installing new systems. Use of diagnostic equipment, such as multimeters and diagnostic software is required.
Preventive Maintenance:
Perform regular inspections and maintenance to ensure the proper functioning of diesel engines, trailers, lift gates, and delivery pallet jacks, including checking oil, brakes, transmissions, and cooling systems.
Documentation:
Maintain detailed records of maintenance, repair work, parts inventory, and service reports. Provide accurate estimates of repair costs to assist in repair vs. replacement decisions. Ensure that all records meet DOT compliance regulations.
Safety Compliance:
Follow safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment. Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
Customer Interaction:
Communicate effectively with department management regarding repair timelines, issues found, and required repairs.
Use Diagnostic Tools:
Operate diagnostic tools and software to detect issues and faults in diesel engines, trailers, lift gates, related systems, and material handling equipment.
Team Collaboration:
Collaborate with other technicians and maintenance management to achieve service goals and meet deadlines.

Requirements & Skills
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing diesel engines, electrical systems, mechanical systems, and trailer and lift gate components.
Problem-solving Skills:
Ability to think critically and solve complex issues.
Communication:
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Education, Certifications and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent. Vocational or technical training in diesel mechanics is preferred.
ASE Diesel Certification or equivalent is a plus.
2+ years of experience working as a Fleet Maintenance Technician or in a related field, with experience in trailer and lift gate maintenance preferred.

Vision abilities required by this job include close vision.Ability to lift heavy equipment (up to 75 lbs.) frequently.

The role often involves working in repair shops, outdoors, or at customer sites. Fleet Maintenance Technicians may be required to work in noisy environments and in various weather conditions, depending on the location and the nature of the job. Occasional work at roadside locations to move equipment to a safer location to complete repairs may be required.
