30am PurposeStatement:
Receives inquiry calls andassists the caller with scheduling a face-to-face, phone, or tele-assessment.Triages individuals based on safety risk. Assesses or ensures assessment by aqualified mental health professional of patients who present for assessment.Screens for medical and behavioral emergency conditions. Performs acomprehensive assessment and quality therapeutic care to patients seekingtreatment for substance abuse, dual diagnosis, or psychiatric or emotionaldisorders; coordinates with the clinical team/on-call physician to ensure theseneeds are met at the facility or other appropriate community providers. Interprets treatment to patient and family tohelp reduce fear and other attitudes obstructing acceptance of care andcontinuation of treatment. Completes the administrative processes of admissionand precertification of care with external payers, as necessary. EssentialFunctions:

• Facilitates response to a request for services,including the initial response, the assessment, the referral process, thedesignation of the appropriate level of care, admission into services, andappropriate follow-up activity.
• Conducts initial evaluation, initiates theassessment, documents patient symptomology, functioning, and needs, andprovides information to MD for LOC determination.
• Demonstrates excellent customer service skillsin assisting patients, physicians, visitors, and coworkers promptly andcourteously.
• Possess clear knowledge of Emergency Detentionpaperwork and processes and EMTALA.
• Maintainsall preadmission and admission paperwork with accuracy and completes allpre-certification with insurance companies.
• Withproper credentials, Specialist may be required to complete vitals check onpatients.
• Otherduties as assigned. Education,License, Certifications, and Skills
• Master's degree in social work or counselingrequired. Associate's degree in nursing with RN license will be accepted inplace of master's degree per state regulations.
• Current, unencumbered social work, counseling,or registered nurse license is required per state regulations.
• Prior experience in a psychiatric healthcarefacility working with adult and geriatric patients preferred. Must have strongclinical assessment skills.
• May be required to work flexible hours andovertime and have the ability to meet typing keyboard expectations.
• CPR certification within 30 days of employmentrequired.
• De-escalation certification within 30 days ofemployment required. Physical, Mental, and Special Demands
• Ability to sit and stand (one-third of theshift) and walk (two-thirds of the shift).
• Ability to reach above or below waist height,kneel, bend, stoop, turn, and twist (occasionally too frequently).
• Visual ability to read charts, treatment plans,computer screens, and typewritten materials.
• Ability to frequently push/pull wheeled carts to100 pounds.
• Ability to frequently lift and carry 10 lbs.;occasionally 20 to 50 lbs.
• Ability to work in an environment wherechemicals are frequently used for cleaning, where medical and electricalhazards may occasionally be present, and where dust, mist, and steam arefrequently generated in housekeeping tasks.
• Ability to work at a rapid pace and perform avariety of repetitive duties. Machines, Tools, Equipment, and OtherWork Aides:

• Telephone and paging systems.
• Copy machine.
• Computer, various software packages,computer-aided therapies
• Calculator/10-Key.
• Facsimile machine.
• Postage machine.
• Policies, procedures, plans and programmanuals.
