Learning Resource Center Intake Specialists, under the supervision of the Director of the Learning Resource Center, help direct the workflow of the LRC. Intake specialists focus on greeting and welcoming learners and orienting them to the processes of the LRC. Working with the learning mentors, the intake specialists assess how students seeking academic support can best be served by logging visits, scheduling appointments, and pairing students with learning mentors. Additionally, employees in this category field diverse questions and appropriately direct students to other offices and services across the College.

  • Effective intake specialists should demonstrate the following qualities and characteristics:
    • Patience, efficiency, punctuality, diligence, and preparedness
    • Respect and understanding for students with diverse learning skills
    • An ability to establish a quick rapport with individuals from a wide variety of cultural and educational backgrounds and respect for differing points of view
    • A professional demeanor, a positive attitude, and a desire to help
    • The ability to maintain confidentiality
    • Excellent problem solving, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
Responsibilities
  • LRC Intake Specialist will perform the following kinds of work:
    • Use the appointment tracking system log students and schedule appointments.
    • Greet all who enter the Learning Resource Center and direct them appropriately.
    • Perform receptionist duties such as answering the phone, monitoring the LRC Canvas Course, and assisting the Directors and Lab Coordinators.
    • Open and close the LRC each day by displaying the open/closed signs and ensuring that all students have been logged in and out of the system.
    • Participate in the creation of student focused events that will promote the Learning Resource Center across the College.
    • Complete other projects and tasks as appropriate to assist Learning Resource Center.
    • Participate in at least two continuing education workshops per semester.
    • Communicate information to the Director of Learning Resource Center on a regular basis in both a formal and informal capacity.
    • Work a weekly, set schedule, logging hours accurately and in a timely manner.
    • Perform an end of term self assessment.
    • Meet with the Director of the Learning Resource Center or their designee to discuss observation and evaluation of performance.
