GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF CLASS

Performs entry level professional duties of moderate difficulty providing the opportunity for professional training in various offices throughout the City. Performs assigned duties to acquire knowledge of methods, procedures and standards required for successful performance. Specific activities vary by department. Work is performed under direct supervision.

This internship is with Lakeland Electric Compliance & Security located at Lakeland Electric at 501 E. Lemon Street in Lakeland, FL. Interns will work a maximum of 29 hours a week.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

+ Works with the Compliance & Security Physical Security Specialist to facilitate security projects

+ Research on Federal Communication Commission (FCC) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) laws associated with unmanned aerial vehicles

+ Registering facilities for temp. flight restrictions (TFRs)

+ Assist in creating a reporting/incident response plan for drone attacks

+ Assisting in possible request for quote (RFQ) process

+ Assist in daily and general Compliance & Security Tasks as needed

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

+ Performs related work as required

QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE)

+ Enrollment as a Junior, Senior, Graduate Student, or recent graduate from a degree seeking program in an accredited college or university in Criminology, Law (or pre-law), Homeland Security, Project Management, Aeronautics, Operations Management

Required: Unofficial college transcript must be uploaded with application

Required: A Resum is required in order to be considered for this position

Required: All potential hires will need to pass the LPD CJIS Background Check

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

+ Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective relationships with supervisor, co-workers, other City employees and the general public

+ Skill in the use of personal computers and standard office equipment

+ Ability to promptly and effectively complete tasks

+ Skill in communicating effectively both verbally and in writing, and to request clarification when needed

+ Business Process Management

+ Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

+ Time management

+ Detail Oriented

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS:

+ Requires sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time, exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a recurring basis, routine keyboard operation

+ The job risks exposure to no significant environmental hazards

+ The job requires normal visual acuity, and field of vision, hearing and speaking
