The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Director of Application Development to lead our development teams and drive the strategy, execution, and delivery of software solutions for our Tax Division.
In this role, you will focus on managing multiple teams, ensuring technical excellence, meeting timelines, and aligning development projects with business objectives.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience managing software development lifecycles, strong leadership abilities, and a proven track record of collaborating cross-functionally to deliver high-quality solutions.

This is a remote position, though candidates located in Jacksonville, FL are preferred, as occasional on-site meetings will be required.

What You Will Do1.Leadership & Strategy

• Lead and mentor multiple development teams, including managers, developers, QA, and architects, fostering a high-performance culture.
  
• Develop and execute strategies that align with the company's objectives, focusing on quality, standards, efficiency, and documentation.
  
• Collaborate with senior leadership to align the development roadmap with business goals and priorities.
  
• Serve as the technical expert and advocate for development best practices, including Scrum methodologies, CI/CD processes, and DevOps practices.
  

• Oversee the complete software development lifecycle, from concept through deployment and maintenance, ensuring timely and bug-free product delivery.
  
• Work closely with Product Management and other stakeholders to ensure business requirements are translated into technical deliverables.
  
• Manage Engineering resources across multiple regions, including onshore, nearshore, and offshore teams.
  
• Ensure projects are well-documented and that appropriate governance, testing, and quality control processes are followed.
  

• Provide direction on system architecture, design principles, coding standards, and software tools.
  
• Stay up-to-date with technological advancements and make recommendations on system improvements or new technologies to implement.
  
• Drive continuous improvements in development methodologies, tools, and frameworks.
  

• Foster a collaborative, team-oriented environment while maintaining accountability and performance standards.
  
• Conduct performance evaluations and offer regular feedback to improve individual and team performance.
  
• Promote knowledge sharing and skill development within and across teams.
  

• Implement and manage development processes, ensuring adherence to Scrum methodologies and maximizing operational efficiency.
  
• Identify and manage risks, ensuring mitigation strategies are in place to minimize disruptions.
  

• Champion and drive the importance of thorough documentation across development teams.
  
• Ensure that code, processes, and project details are properly documented to enhance knowledge sharing, onboarding, and long-term project sustainability.
  
• Collaborate with development team managers to ensure that all architectural designs, coding standards, and processes are well-documented and maintained in accessible knowledge repositories such as Confluence.
  
• Establish clear documentation standards and ensure team adherence to those standards throughout the development lifecycle.
  

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field (Master's preferred).
  
• 10+ years of experience in software development, including 5+ years in a leadership role.
  
• Proven experience in managing development teams, including experience with offshore resources.
  
• Strong understanding of Scrum software development methodologies, CI/CD, DevOps practices, and AWS cloud-based architectures.
  
• Proficient in using Jira for project management, tracking development progress, and ensuring alignment with Scrum methodologies.
  
• Hands-on experience with full-stack development and technologies including .NET, C#, Windows Forms, MVC, SQL Server, PHP, MySQL, etc.
  
• Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools such as Azure Pipelines, Git, Docker, etc.
  
• Expertise in database technologies (e.g., SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL) and large-scale system designs.
  
• Excellent leadership, team management, and interpersonal skills.
  
• Ability to communicate complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  
• Must be extremely organized with a high level of attention to detail, ensuring thorough documentation, precise project planning, and the ability to manage multiple complex tasks and deadlines simultaneously.
  
• Experience in the tax industry or with tax-related software solutions is highly preferred, with an understanding of regulatory requirements, compliance, and tax workflows being a strong asset.
